V Lift Korea: Who It Suits, and When I'd Say No

If you searched βv lift koreaβ, you'll find it isn't a single treatment: it usually means one of two non-surgical routes to a slimmer, more defined lower face. Absorbable threads reposition sagging tissue, and Sok-Sok Face Injection targets small pockets of fat. Which one fits depends on what is actually blurring your jawline, and at HERA that question comes first, before any treatment is named. If a surgeon at home has already told you threads βwon't do muchβ for your face, that's the worry I want to answer here: whether this trip makes sense for you at all.
Neither route involves an incision or general anesthesia. Custom Thread Lifting takes 20 to 30 minutes, Premium Thread Lifting 30 to 60, and a Sok-Sok session 10 to 15. At HERA, the specialist who consults with you is the one who performs your treatment; it is never handed off to someone else on the day.
If you can't tell from the mirror which problem you have, send two photos on WhatsApp: one straight on and one in profile, in daylight, with your jaw relaxed. Add the exact sentence your doctor at home said that made you hesitate, and ask whether it rules threads out.

Is your jawline sagging, or is it fat?
Usually it's a mix, and the proportion matters more than the label. Sagging tissue slides down and gathers over the jaw as a jowl. Localized fat sits under the chin or along the jaw and softens the edge from below. Threads move tissue; Sok-Sok reduces fat. Neither does the other's job.
You can get a rough sense at home. Take a side photo with your chin level, then gently push your cheek up and back toward your ear. A fold that lifts away from the jawline when you do that is mostly descent. A soft fullness under the chin that you can pinch between two fingers, and that stays put when the cheek moves, is more likely fat. It's a rough guide, not a diagnosis; the exam in person settles it.
| What you notice | What usually drives it | What tends to be discussed |
|---|---|---|
| A jowl that lifts when you push the cheek toward the ear | Tissue descent | Thread lifting |
| Pinchable fullness under the chin or along the jaw | Localized fat | Sok-Sok Face Injection |
| A square angle that hardens when you clench | Masseter muscle | Botulinum toxin, a separate conversation |
| A wide or angular jaw bone | Bone structure | Neither threads nor injections change bone |
That last row is the one people are least happy to read, so I'd rather say it early. If the width you want to lose is bone, a V lift can refine the soft tissue around it, and the outline underneath stays the same.
Who a V lift suits, and when I'd point you elsewhere
A V lift tends to suit mild to moderate sagging, or a defined pocket of fat, in skin that still springs back when you pinch and release it. It's a weaker fit for heavy skin excess, folds that hang below the jaw, or a neck that has loosened as much as the face.
The reason is mechanical. When skin has stretched to the point of hanging in folds, there is less firm tissue to grip and more weight pulling against the hold. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes the thread lift as a less invasive option than a surgical facelift, with more modest results. So if your surgeon at home said you need a surgical lift, they may be right, and I would rather tell you that than sell you threads that disappoint you three months later.
My position here is the one HERA states on its own pages: conscientious care without overtreatment, only what is truly necessary. For one person that means threads alone. For another it's a single area of Sok-Sok. For some it means nothing yet.
If your concern is looser skin across the whole lower face, more than a defined jowl, energy-based lifting may be the better first conversation. You can read how SMAS lifting with Ultherapy reaches the deeper layer, and how titanium lifting and shrink lifting work closer to the surface.
What the treatment day involves
Both thread options and Sok-Sok are done under numbing, with no incision, and each fits inside an hour on the treatment bed. What differs is the material and what it is meant to move or reduce.
Custom Thread Lifting uses absorbable threads (PDO, PCL or PLLA) to reposition sagging tissue and act as a scaffold for new collagen, and it is paired with Ultherapy and Titanium RF. Thread directions are planned for each face. Expect 20 to 30 minutes with topical numbing cream and local anesthesia; the lift generally holds 12 to 24 months.
Premium Thread Lifting uses biocompatible PLA threads with 360Β° cones that anchor and reposition sagging tissue. It takes 30 to 60 minutes under local anesthesia. Results generally last about 12 to 24 months, with thread count and skin condition as the main factors.
Sok-Sok Face Injection is injection-only. A lipolytic solution goes into targeted pockets (double chin, jawline, buccal fat, side cheekbones), and the body clears the treated fat over the following weeks. It takes 10 to 15 minutes, usually with topical numbing cream. Slimming shows gradually over 2 to 4 weeks, and 2 to 3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart are often recommended; the plan is confirmed at consultation.
Risks and side effects to know
If you'd like to see how thread results tend to look once the swelling has gone, our guide to reading thread lift results walks through it, and the thread face lift guide covers the midface and jaw together.
Why does it matter who holds the needle?
With threads, most of the result is decided in planning: which direction each thread pulls, how many go in, and where they anchor. If the person who made that plan isn't the one placing the threads, the plan can drift between the consultation room and the treatment bed.
That's why the handover point matters to me. The specialist who consults with you at HERA is the one who treats you. Only genuine, approved products are used, and for injections the sealed vial is opened in front of you. We don't rush through high volumes.
On the lifting side, my colleague Dr. Lee Jong Hoon co-authored LIFTINGOLOGY: Science and Clinical Practice in Aesthetic Medicine and has conducted more than 20 physician-focused thread-lifting hands-on seminars and live demonstrations.
What can go wrong with threads or fat-dissolving injections?
Most of what follows a V lift is minor and temporary: swelling, tightness and small bruises near the insertion or injection points, which usually ease within a few days. Sok-Sok can also leave some redness at the injection sites for a short while.
Less often, threads cause problems of their own: dimpling or puckering of the skin, a thread you can feel or see, asymmetry, infection, or a thread working its way out. Many are manageable, but some need a doctor's hands, and that matters when you live a long flight away.
Before you fly, ask for a record of what was used: the thread type and number, or the areas injected. The US CDC's guidance for medical travelers recommends carrying copies of your records and arranging follow-up care at home before you go, so a doctor there can see what was done if something feels wrong in week two.
How long a result lasts and how a face responds differs from person to person, and the final plan is made in person, after the exam.
How long until you can fly home?
For most people, the swelling and small bruises after threads or Sok-Sok settle within a few days, so the flight itself is rarely the hard part. What I'd avoid is treatment on the day before you fly.
On the day, expect tightness and some swelling; most people walk out and go back to the hotel. By around day 3 the swelling has usually eased, though a small bruise may still show.
Sok-Sok runs on a slower clock. The slimming shows over 2 to 4 weeks, which means you'll see it at home, and if a second session is recommended, it falls a few weeks later. That means either a second trip or a longer stay, and it's worth knowing before you book.
Before you fly
Keep one full day between treatment and departure, so the first night of swelling happens in a hotel bed and not in an economy seat.
HERA is closed on Sundays and public holidays, so if you land on a Saturday night, Monday is your first possible appointment.
Once your dates are set, send them on WhatsApp with your arrival and departure times, and ask one thing: if Sok-Sok is part of the plan, can a second session fit inside this trip?

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1Is a V lift in Korea a surgical procedure?
At HERA, the V-line options are non-surgical: absorbable threads placed under the skin, or Sok-Sok Face Injection, which is injection-only with no incisions and no general anesthesia.Q2How long does a thread V lift last?
Custom and Premium Thread Lifting generally hold for about 12 to 24 months. Skin condition and, for Premium Thread Lifting, the number of threads are the main factors.Q3When will I see the slimming from Sok-Sok Face Injection?
Slimming appears gradually over 2 to 4 weeks as the body clears the treated fat, so most travelers see it at home. Two to three sessions spaced a few weeks apart are often recommended, and the plan is confirmed at consultation.Q4Can threads and Sok-Sok both be part of one plan?
Many lower faces carry some sagging and some fat. The doctor looks at which cause is behind your concern and recommends the option, or combination, that fits at the consultation.Q5Will people be able to tell I've had threads?
In the first few days, small bruises or insertion points may show, and the area can feel tight. These usually ease within a few days, which is why a buffer day before your flight and before any important event helps.
