Hello, I'm Dr. Lee Jong Hoon, the lifting specialist at Gangnam HERA. I co-authored LIFTINGOLOGY and served as a clinical instructor at the 2023 KAFC Cadaver Workshop, so facial anatomy is something I think about every day. That is why I wanted to explain Yujin's (@yujin.in.seoul) case myself. It was her very first laser face lift, and what she valued most was not the device but the approach: she wrote that the consultation "was all about what I wanted to enhance, not what 'needed' fixing," and that from the custom mapping to the 10THERA pulses, every step was tailored to her bone structure. Fourteen days later, in her words, she felt "snatched, glowy, and still me." Let me explain what custom mapping actually means, and what you can realistically expect at two weeks.

What does custom mapping mean in a 10THERA treatment?

It means the treatment lines are drawn for your face before any energy is delivered, rather than following a standard template. In Yujin's video you can see the white lines marked on her skin after the numbing cream was removed. Those lines decide three things: which zones receive energy, at what depth, and how much. 10THERA uses 3.0mm and 4.5mm cartridges β€” the 4.5mm reaches the SMAS, the deep support layer that holds the face up, while the 3.0mm works on the more superficial layer. A map lets us place the deeper lines where lifting will actually show and use the shallower cartridge, or nothing at all, where it will not.

Yujin also mentioned that the consultant actually listened to what she wanted to enhance. That conversation shapes the map. Someone who wants a sharper jawline and someone who wants a softer, firmer cheek line may both have 10THERA, but their maps should look different.

Why does bone structure matter when planning HIFU?

Because the same energy behaves differently depending on what lies beneath the skin. HIFU works by heating the SMAS to around 60–80Β°C so collagen and elastin contract and regenerate. Where soft tissue sits close to bone β€” along parts of the jawline, for instance β€” the amount of tissue between skin and bone is limited, and depth and line placement need care. Where soft tissue is fuller and has started to descend, the deeper cartridge has more to work on and the lift is more visible. Your bone structure also determines where a lift looks natural: the goal is to support the contour you already have, not to impose a shape from someone else's face.

Yujin wrote that she was glad to find a clinic that values her natural features as much as she does. In practice, that respect is built into the map. We direct energy toward the zones that support her own structure and leave alone the areas that already look the way she likes them.

What did Yujin's 10THERA session involve?

Her visit followed our usual order: consultation, cleansing, topical numbing cream, mapping, then treatment. 10THERA fires two lines per shot, which makes the session roughly twice as fast as conventional single-line HIFU, and the treatment itself usually takes within about 20 minutes. Yujin described the sensation as feeling "like a thousand energetic micro-pulses," which is a fair description of what most patients feel: short, repeated pulses of deep warmth as the energy reaches the SMAS, with tip cooling and an automatic shut-off on the device to protect the skin.

Her plan for that visit also included a contouring injection, which she calls the "Ssok-Pae" injection in her video and found "totally painless." I will keep the focus of this article on the 10THERA part of her treatment, because that is the step her caption describes in detail.

What can you expect 14 days after 10THERA?

At two weeks you are usually past any visible after-effects, and an early firming is often noticeable, but the lift is still developing. Downtime after 10THERA is minimal: mild redness or slight tenderness may appear and generally settles within a day. Some tightening can be seen right away; the fuller lift builds over two to three months as new collagen forms, and results typically last around 12–18 months depending on skin condition. So the day-14 feeling Yujin describes is a good sign, but it is not the final picture β€” I would compare photos again at the two-to-three-month mark. She has said she is already planning her next visit and will share her before and after. Results vary from person to person, and the timeline above is a guide rather than a promise.

Below are real HERA patients who had 10THERA-based lifting β€” these cases were treated with Dual-Line Tenti, which pairs the same 10THERA ultrasound with Soprano Titanium β€” so you can see how natural a lower-face lift can look when the plan follows the person's own structure.

What do we deliberately avoid in a first lifting plan?

We avoid doing too much at once. A first lift is when people learn how their skin responds, so I would rather plan a moderate, well-placed session and build from there than chase a dramatic change that no longer looks like the patient. We also avoid adding devices for the sake of a longer menu. If a patient's skin has lost firmness across every layer, I may suggest Dual-Line Tenti, which adds the Soprano Titanium laser to firm the epidermis and dermis in the same session. If a contour concern is really a localized fat pocket, an injection is the more direct tool. The map decides, not the price list.

Pregnancy, active inflammation in the area, or a recent procedure on the same zone all call for a conversation before HIFU, which is why every plan starts with an in-person consultation. At HERA in Gangnam, international patients are treated by a board-certified doctor with an on-site English interpreter, receive a written quote after consultation, and pay the same price as our Korean patients.

Is This for You?

Who this treatment is genuinely for

Signs it may be time to consider it

  • You've never had a lifting treatment and aren't sure where to start
  • You worry a lift might make you look 'done' or unlike yourself
  • Your lower face has started to look softer, but you like your overall face shape
  • You've seen one-size-fits-all lifting packages and want something tailored
  • You'd like to know what is realistic at two weeks versus two to three months

It's a good fit if

  • You're considering your first non-surgical face lift and want to start conservatively
  • You want to enhance your own features rather than change your face shape
  • You'd like a treatment plan mapped to your bone structure, not a fixed template
  • You prefer minimal downtime and a result that develops gradually

Not the right first step if: 10THERA isn't the right first step if you're pregnant, have active inflammation or infection in the area, or had a recent procedure on the same zone β€” and if your concern is mainly fat or volume, we'll suggest a different tool. We always begin with an in-person consultation.

Good to Know

Questions patients actually ask

What is custom face mapping in 10THERA?
It's drawing the treatment lines on your face before any energy is delivered β€” deciding which zones get the deeper 4.5mm cartridge, which get the 3.0mm, and how many lines each receives β€” based on your structure and goals rather than a template.
Will 10THERA change my face shape?
It shouldn't. 10THERA tightens the SMAS layer so your existing contour firms up; it adds no volume. Mapping to your bone structure is what keeps the result looking like you.
What does 10THERA feel like?
Most patients feel short, repeated pulses of deep warmth β€” Yujin described it as "a thousand energetic micro-pulses." Topical numbing cream and the fast 2-line delivery keep it manageable.
What will I see 14 days after 10THERA?
By two weeks any mild redness has usually long settled and early firmness is often noticeable, but the fuller lift keeps developing for two to three months. Results vary from person to person.
Is 10THERA a good first lifting treatment?
It can be, because it is non-surgical, incision-free and has minimal downtime. We usually start a first lift with a moderate, well-mapped session and adjust later based on how your skin responds.
