Juvelook for Skin Texture with Low Pain Tolerance — A Real Patient Review

Dr. Han Jin Yi explains Shelly's Juvelook case in her own words — how we kept the injections almost painless for her, why her skin looked irritated for three or four days, and why she still says it was worth it.

Hello, I'm Dr. Han Jin Yi, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA who focuses on skin boosters and skin regeneration. Shelly (@shellydemaria) shared her visit with her Spanish-speaking followers under a short caption — "Valió la pena," it was worth it. Her video is one of the most honest I have seen about Juvelook: she explains what it is for, admits it has a reputation for being painful, shows how we managed that for her, and does not hide that her skin looked irritated for several days before it improved. I want to walk you through each of those points from the doctor's side.

What was Shelly hoping to change?

Her goal was skin texture. In her own words, Juvelook "is used to improve skin texture," and she named the details she cared about: "fine lines," "pores," and "acne marks." Before treatment she had a facial skin analysis on a tablet and a consultation with a face chart, so that the plan was based on what her skin actually showed rather than on what is popular online. Texture concerns like hers usually come from the dermis rather than the surface: when collagen support thins, pores look wider, fine lines show more, and old marks catch the light. That is why a collagen-building booster made sense for her, rather than something that only works on the top layer.

How does Juvelook improve skin texture?

It prompts the skin to build its own new collagen, gradually, from inside the dermis. Juvelook combines poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) with hyaluronic acid. After injection, the PDLLA microparticles slowly break down and stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen, while the hyaluronic acid adds immediate hydration. Standard Juvelook, the version Shelly had, has a lower PDLLA concentration and is designed for tone, fine lines and pores; Juvelook Volume is a higher-concentration formula meant for restoring volume and deeper wrinkles. Because the aim was refinement rather than fullness, standard Juvelook was the natural fit for her.

Is Juvelook painful if your pain tolerance is low?

It can be, and that is exactly why we plan the anesthesia carefully. Shelly said it directly: "the problem is that it is very painful." Juvelook is placed in many small points, so even with good numbing you feel repeated pricks. For her, we went further than numbing cream alone. As she described it, she was offered local anesthesia — "not only with the numbing cream, but real anesthesia on my face" — and "thanks to that, the procedure was almost painless." In the video you can also see two simple comfort measures: a vibration device held near the injection area to distract the nerves, and a soft cushion to hold onto. Her advice to her followers was that if you "wanna try treatments" but are afraid your "pain tolerance is too low," this is "an option." I agree, with one note: the level of anesthesia is a medical decision we make together at consultation, based on your face and your health history.

Why did her skin look irritated for three or four days?

Because many small injection points create a short inflammatory phase before the skin settles. Shelly opens her video with close-ups from those first days, showing visible redness and small bumps across her cheeks, and she says plainly that her skin "was very irritated for three or 4 days." That is within what we expect: mild redness, swelling, small bumps at injection points and occasional bruising usually settle within a few days, and a gentle massage may be advised. Her practical tip is one I give too — she does "not recommend" it "if you have an important upcoming event." Book Juvelook with a few clear days afterwards.

When did she see the change, and what does that mean for you?

She saw it once the irritation passed — "after that time the change in my skin was really impressive." The early glow is partly hydration from the hyaluronic acid. The collagen-related improvement in texture, fine lines and pores builds gradually, usually becoming noticeable from around three to four weeks. A single session may last about five to six months, while a course of about three sessions roughly a month apart can maintain results for twelve months or longer. Results vary from person to person. I always review the skin before recommending the next session.

What did we not do, and what else could fit?

We did not add filler or switch to Juvelook Volume, because Shelly's concern was surface quality, not lost volume, and adding volume would not have refined her texture. We also kept the visit to one treatment so her healing time stayed short and predictable. A viewer asked whether this was the treatment that removed her nasolabial lines; I would be careful here — standard Juvelook is aimed at fine lines and texture, and deeper folds are assessed separately. For patients whose acne marks sit alongside active breakouts or oiliness, Potenza with exosomes is another route to discuss, and we review the full range of skin regeneration boosters at consultation.

Shelly also mentioned our full-time translator, so the language barrier was not a worry for her. Every international patient at HERA is treated directly by a board-certified doctor and receives a written quote after consultation at the same price our Korean patients pay.

Is This for You?

Who this treatment is genuinely for

Signs it may be time to consider it

  • Your skin looks uneven up close even though it photographs fine from a distance
  • Fine lines are starting to show around your eyes or cheeks
  • Pores and old acne marks are what you notice first in the mirror
  • You have skipped treatments in the past because of pain
  • You want a result that looks like better skin, not a different face

It's a good fit if

  • You want smoother texture, softer fine lines and less visible pores and acne marks
  • You have avoided injectable boosters because you worry about pain
  • You prefer gradual, natural improvement over added volume
  • You can leave a few clear days after treatment before any important event

Not the right first step if: Juvelook isn't the right choice right before an important event, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have active infection or inflammation in the treatment area; anesthesia options also depend on your health history, so a doctor's consultation always comes first.

“If pain is the main thing stopping you, tell me that first — it changes how I plan the session, not whether you can have it. Send a close-up photo of your skin in daylight and I'll tell you honestly whether Juvelook fits, and how we would keep you comfortable.”

Good to Know

Questions patients actually ask

Is Juvelook very painful?
It can be uncomfortable because it is injected at many small points. With numbing cream and, where appropriate, additional local anesthesia, many patients — including Shelly — describe it as almost painless.
What options are there if my pain tolerance is low?
Topical numbing is standard, and gas or additional local anesthesia can be planned at consultation depending on your health history. Simple measures such as a vibration device during injection also help.
How long does redness or irritation last after Juvelook?
Usually a few days. Mild redness, swelling and small bumps at injection points commonly settle within that time; Shelly's skin looked irritated for three or four days before it calmed.
Can I have Juvelook right before an event?
It is better not to. Leave at least several clear days after treatment, because early redness and small bumps can be visible before the skin settles.
When will my skin texture improve?
Hydration can be felt early, while collagen-based improvement in texture, fine lines and pores builds gradually from around three to four weeks. A course of about three sessions roughly a month apart is commonly recommended.
