Lip and Chin Filler in One Visit β€” A Real Patient Review

Dr. Kim Jong Seon explains Mei's lip and chin filler visit: why the two areas are planned as one lower-face unit, how the session runs, and what her Day 1 and Day 2 photos show.

Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Jong Seon, director of Gangnam HERA and the filler specialist on our team. I want to walk you through Mei's (@mei.meima) visit myself, because she came in for a combination I plan very often: lip filler and chin filler in the same session. In her own caption she called HERA "a little hidden gem I found in Gangnam" and wrote that the results were "exactly what I wanted." I will not share private clinical notes beyond what Mei has posted publicly, but I can explain how a lip-and-chin plan is built, what happens on the day, and what her Day 1 and Day 2 photos are actually showing you.

Why plan lip filler and chin filler together?

Because the lips and the chin are read as one unit when someone looks at the lower third of your face. If I add volume to the lips alone, the mouth can start to look heavy over a short or soft chin. If I treat the chin alone, the lips can look thinner by comparison. When both are designed together, I can balance the distance from the base of the nose to the lips, and from the lips to the tip of the chin, so the profile reads as one smooth line. That is the logic behind our lip filler design: the shape is always built around your overall facial proportions rather than around the lips in isolation. Mei asked for both areas in one visit, and that is a reasonable request when the goal is balance rather than size.

What do I look at in a lip-and-chin consultation?

I start with the side profile, not the front. From the side I check how far the lips project compared with the chin, whether the chin sits back, and how the lower lip relates to the upper lip. From the front I look at the lip border, whether one side is fuller than the other, and the corners of the mouth. Then I ask the patient to smile and talk, because a lip that looks good at rest can look stiff in motion. Only after that do I mark the design. For the chin, I mark the point that should project and the width I want to keep, because adding volume to a chin is about direction, not just amount. For the lips, I map the border, the body of the upper and lower lip, and the corners, and I show the plan to the patient in a mirror before any injection.

How is the treatment actually done?

The lips are sensitive, so we apply topical numbing cream first, and local anesthesia is available if needed. While it takes effect, we confirm the design together one more time. Lip filler at HERA is done with genuine hyaluronic-acid products in precise, measured amounts, and the full lip procedure is usually finished within about 30 minutes. I build volume in small amounts, checking symmetry between passes, rather than placing everything at once. For the chin, hyaluronic-acid filler is placed at the depth that gives projection where it was marked, then gently shaped. At the end, the patient sits up, looks in the mirror, and we check both sides together. Because hyaluronic acid can be dissolved, the result can be adjusted later if any correction is ever needed. That safety margin is one reason I prefer HA filler for areas people see every day.

What do the Day 1 and Day 2 photos really show?

Mei shared two selfies labeled Day 1 and Day 2 after lip filler, and they are a good example of normal early healing. Lips are very vascular, so mild swelling, tenderness or a small bruise for one to three days is common, and the lips can look slightly fuller at first than they will finally be. In those early photos the lips have a glossy, full look, which is typical of the first days. I always tell patients not to judge the final lip shape in the first few days: the final shape is most reliably judged after about a week. The chin usually settles faster; most people return to daily life right away, with any mild swelling or bruising generally settling within two to three days. Results vary from person to person, so we judge the outcome together once the swelling has gone, not on the first morning.

What did we deliberately not do?

A lip-and-chin visit can easily turn into a full-face plan, and that is not always in the patient's interest. When someone asks for two areas and the plan makes sense for those two areas, I do not add a jawline or a cheek just because we are already injecting. The point of a combined lower-face plan is balance; adding more areas on the same day makes it harder to see what each change actually did. I also avoid making the lips the focal point of the face. If the chin is under-supported, I would rather give the chin a little more structure and keep the lips moderate than push the lips toward an overfilled look. If a patient later wants to refine the cheeks or other areas, we plan that at a separate visit with fresh photos. You can read more about how we approach lip filler at HERA and our general facial fillers, which cover the lower face and jawline.

How long will it last, and who is this for?

Results are visible immediately. Domestic hyaluronic-acid fillers typically last 6 to 12 months and imported fillers 12 to 18 months, although lips tend to metabolize filler a little faster than some other areas. A lip-and-chin combination suits people whose lips look thin or undefined and whose chin looks short or set back, especially if they feel the lower face looks unfinished from the side. It is not the right first step if you have an active cold sore, a known hyaluronic-acid allergy, or you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Below are real HERA patients who had the same treatment, so you can see lip and chin results on different faces. At Gangnam HERA, international patients are treated directly by our doctors with English support on site, and pricing is the same as for Korean patients; we give you a written quote after your consultation.

Is This for You?

Who this treatment is genuinely for

Signs it may be time to consider it

  • Your lips look full from the front but the lower face looks unfinished from the side
  • Your chin seems to sit behind your lower lip in profile photos
  • Lip filler alone made your mouth look heavier than you expected
  • One side of your lips looks slightly fuller than the other
  • You want both areas planned together so the change looks balanced

It's a good fit if

  • Your lips look thin or the lip border has lost definition
  • Your chin looks short or set back when you see your side profile
  • You want the lower face balanced as one unit rather than one feature enlarged
  • You prefer a reversible hyaluronic-acid option over surgery

Not the right first step if: This isn't the right first step if you have an active cold sore, a known hyaluronic-acid allergy, or you're pregnant or breastfeeding β€” we always begin with an in-person consultation.

Good to Know

Questions patients actually ask

Can lip filler and chin filler be done on the same day?
Yes. Both use hyaluronic-acid filler and can be planned in one visit when the goal is lower-face balance. The design is marked and checked with you in a mirror before any injection.
Does lip and chin filler hurt?
Discomfort is usually mild. Topical numbing cream is applied first, and local anesthesia can be added if needed, especially for the sensitive lips.
How swollen will my lips be on Day 1 and Day 2?
Mild swelling, tenderness or a small bruise for one to three days is common, and lips may look slightly fuller at first. The final shape is most reliably judged after about a week.
How long do lip and chin filler last?
Domestic hyaluronic-acid fillers typically last 6 to 12 months and imported fillers 12 to 18 months. Lips tend to metabolize filler a little faster than other areas, and results vary from person to person.
Can the result be changed if I don't like it?
Yes. Because hyaluronic-acid filler is used, the result can be adjusted or dissolved if a correction is ever needed.
