Hello, I'm Dr. Han Jin Yi, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA, and skin boosters and skin regeneration are my focus here. I want to explain the case of @valeeedgal in my own words, because her post asks a question I now hear every week. She opened with "Salmon sp3rm facials was just the beginning…" and called the treatment she had at HERA "the most popular skin treatment in Korean skin clinics right now." The treatment she tagged is Re2O β€” written as "RE20" in her hashtags, and known in Korea as 리투였. The text on her cover image sums up why people find it surprising: "human tissue-derived collagen injections." So this review is less about drama and more about a fair explanation: what Re2O is, how it differs from the salmon-DNA boosters many visitors already know, and how we decide who it suits.

What exactly is Re2O?

Re2O (Elravie Re2O) is a collagen skin booster made from human-derived acellular dermal matrix, or ADM. In plain language, it is finely micronized dermal tissue that has been processed so that the cells are removed and the structural framework remains: concentrated collagen, elastin and other components of the extracellular matrix that make up real skin. The raw material is US FDA-approved and certified by the AATB (American Association of Tissue Banks) for safety and quality. Because the cellular components that could trigger an immune reaction are removed, the risk of foreign-body sensation and inflammation is low. That is the reason the phrase "human tissue-derived" sounds stranger than the treatment actually is. The aim is not to inflate the skin like a filler, but to supply the structural proteins that thin, aging skin has lost, so the dermis can be remodeled from within.

How is Re2O different from salmon DNA boosters and hyaluronic acid?

The short answer is that each type of booster gives the skin a different material to work with. The "salmon" treatments she referred to belong to the polynucleotide family; at HERA that is Rejuran, based on polynucleotides (PN) from purified salmon DNA, which stimulates the skin's own repair processes. Hyaluronic acid boosters, on the other hand, mainly replenish moisture. Re2O takes a third route: instead of signalling the skin to repair or simply adding water, it directly supplements the collagen and elastin that the dermis is made of. When I explain this to patients, I use a building analogy. Hyaluronic acid waters the garden, polynucleotides call in the repair crew, and Re2O delivers some of the building materials. None of these is automatically "better"; they answer different problems, and sometimes we combine them across a treatment plan.

How do we decide whether someone should have Re2O?

We choose Re2O when the main problem is loss of density and firmness in the dermis, not just dryness or sensitivity. In consultation, I look at whether the skin feels thin and lax when I pinch it gently, whether fine dry lines sit on the forehead or around the eyes, whether the front of the cheeks has started to flatten, and whether pores look stretched rather than simply clogged. Rough, dry skin that has lost firmness, dull skin lacking clarity, and early laxity in the mid-face are the patterns where Re2O makes the most sense. If instead the patient's main concern is a reactive, easily irritated barrier, I lean toward polynucleotides first. If the skin is healthy and firm but simply dehydrated, a hydration booster is the more proportionate answer. Re2O can be used on the forehead, the front of the cheeks, the under-eye area, around the eyes and on the neck, so the plan is drawn according to where density has actually been lost rather than injecting the whole face by default.

How is Re2O injected, and what does the skin look like afterwards?

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and uses only a topical anesthetic cream. After consultation, the skin is cleansed and numbed, and then the micronized collagen is micro-injected into the dermal layer. For broad areas such as the cheeks, an injector handpiece is used so the product is spread in small, even deposits; you can see one on her cover image. That same image shows what many people find alarming β€” small pinpoint marks across the treated area. They are the entry points of a fine needle, and they are expected; brief redness or small injection bumps can appear and usually settle quickly. Because only topical numbing is used and there is no sedation, most patients return to everyday activities the same day. I always tell patients to plan their evening loosely anyway: no heavy makeup over fresh injection points, and a gentle skincare routine until the skin has calmed.

When do results show, and what should you not expect?

Some effect may be visible early on, but firmness, texture and volume continue to improve over several weeks as the dermis regenerates. That is why I ask patients to judge Re2O over a period of weeks rather than in the mirror that night. Results vary from person to person, and they depend on how much density was lost to begin with. What you should not expect is the immediate, sculpted change of a filler or the deep tightening of an energy-based lifting device; Re2O works in the dermis, so it improves the quality of the skin rather than the position of the tissue beneath it. In her case, Re2O was one part of a larger plan she listed in another post, and those other treatments are a separate discussion. If you are considering Re2O, a consultation is required to confirm suitability and exclude contraindications such as pregnancy, active infection or a history of hypersensitivity. At HERA in Gangnam, international patients are treated by a doctor, supported by English-speaking staff, and charged the same price as our Korean patients, with a written quote after consultation.

Is This for You?

Who this treatment is genuinely for

Signs it may be time to consider it

  • Moisturizers no longer make your skin feel firm or bouncy
  • Your skin looks dull even after a good night's sleep
  • Pores look stretched rather than clogged
  • Hydration boosters gave you a glow but not lasting firmness
  • You are curious about collagen boosters but unsure which type fits you

It's a good fit if

  • Your skin feels thinner, drier and less firm than it used to
  • Fine dry lines have appeared on the forehead or around the eyes
  • The front of your cheeks has started to look flatter or lax
  • You want to improve skin quality itself rather than add filler volume

Not the right first step if: Re2O isn't suitable during pregnancy, with an active infection, or with a history of hypersensitivity, and it won't replace a filler or a lifting device β€” a consultation is required to confirm suitability.

Good to Know

Questions patients actually ask

What is Re2O made of?
Re2O is made from micronized human acellular dermal matrix (ADM). It delivers concentrated collagen, elastin and other extracellular matrix components, with the cells removed during processing.
Is Re2O the same as RE20 or 리투였?
Yes. Re2O is often written as RE20 on social media, and its Korean name is 리투였. They all refer to the same human-derived collagen skin booster.
How is Re2O different from Rejuran?
Re2O directly supplements collagen and elastin, while Rejuran uses polynucleotides from purified salmon DNA to stimulate the skin's own repair. They target different problems and can be planned together.
Is Re2O safe?
The raw material is US FDA-approved and AATB certified, and acellular processing gives it a low risk of foreign-body sensation and inflammation. A medical consultation is still essential to check for contraindications.
Is there downtime after Re2O?
Downtime is minimal. Only topical numbing cream is used, so most people return to normal activities the same day, with any redness or small bumps usually brief.
