Korean Filler Before and After: What a Real Result Looks Like

I'm Dr. Jong Seon Kim, a plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and a board member of the International Petit Medical Society, and most of my clinical day is spent on fillers and injectables. Patients who search for Korean filler before and after photos often send me a screenshot with one question: "Will I really look like this afterwards?" My honest answer: a good filler result looks like you, rested and better balanced — softer hollows, cleaner contours, more even proportions. It should not look like a different person, and if a before-and-after does, I would look closely at how the photo was taken.
What does a real Korean filler before and after look like?
The same face with better-supported volume: hollows softened, contours defined and proportions evened out. Hyaluronic-acid filler adds volume where it has been lost or was never there, and smooths creases from beneath. In a photograph that shows as a brighter under-eye, a smoother transition from cheek to jaw, a rounder forehead in profile or a fuller, better-defined lip.
What the Korean approach adds, in my view, is restraint in design. The aim is three-dimensional balance for your face — not an overfilled look. So an honest "after" is often quieter than people expect, and the change is clearer in profile and in movement than in a straight-on selfie.
When can you judge the result?
The change is visible immediately, but judge the shape once swelling has settled — usually after two to three days, and after about a week for lips and under-eyes. Mild swelling, redness or a small bruise is common straight after treatment. The lips are vascular and can look bigger at first; under-eye skin is very thin and can show a small bruise for a few days.
That is why a photograph taken the same day, or the next morning, is not a fair "after". If you are visiting Seoul, plan the treatment early in your stay so a review is possible before you fly. And keep your own photographs: same room, same light, same angle, before and about a week after.
What changes most clearly, area by area?
The areas with the most visible change are those with a clear hollow or a clear contour to define. These are the areas we commonly treat with hyaluronic acid, and what a realistic "after" shows in each.

How do you read filler before-and-after photos honestly?
Compare like with like: same light, same angle, same expression, and a date on both. Filler changes are often a few millimetres of contour, and a change of lighting or head tilt can look bigger than the treatment itself.
- Check the lighting. Light from above deepens hollows; soft front light erases them. If the "before" is harsher, the comparison flatters.
- Check the angle. Forehead, chin and jawline results show in profile; under-eye results show straight on.
- Check the timing. A same-day photo shows swelling, not the result.
- Ask what else was done. Botox, threads or skin treatments in the same period change the picture.

How long does the "after" last?
At HERA, domestic fillers generally last around 6 to 12 months and imported fillers around 12 to 18 months. Duration varies with the area — mobile areas such as the lips tend to absorb filler a little faster — and with your metabolism. Results vary from person to person.
So a before-and-after is a snapshot of a result that fades gradually rather than disappearing overnight. Most patients who like their result come back for a smaller top-up rather than a full repeat. "Can you make me look like the photo I sent?"
I can tell you which parts of it are possible on your face. Filler works with your structure; it does not replace it. I would rather show you a realistic plan than promise a copy.
"What if I don't like the after?"
Hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved if an adjustment is ever needed. That is one reason I plan a conservative first session and review, instead of placing everything at once.
"Is there anything I should watch for after filler?"
Mild swelling or a small bruise is expected and usually settles in two to three days. Pain that keeps getting worse, skin turning pale, dusky or mottled, or any change in vision needs a doctor the same day. It is uncommon, and it is why filler belongs in a physician's hands. The honest limits
Filler is not permanent, and it cannot do what surgery or lifting does. It adds volume and smooths hollows and creases; it does not lift heavy, sagging tissue or reshape bone. A before-and-after that shows a transformed face usually reflects more than filler, or a photograph that is not like for like. Most of the "gone wrong" results I am asked to review, like those in bad cheek fillers, came from too much product placed in pursuit of a dramatic after.
