Which Korean Skin Booster Injection? Usually Just One
Dr. Kim Jong Seon · Filler Specialist8 min readOn this page
A Korean skin booster injection is a set of small, shallow injections that put one active ingredient into the dermis: hyaluronic acid for water, polynucleotides for repair, or a collagen stimulator for firmness. Which one makes sense depends on the single problem you see most in the mirror, and for most first visits that means one booster, not a stack of five.
| Your main concern | Booster family (HERA menu) | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Dull, tight, dehydrated skin | Hyaluronic acid: Aqua Glow Injection, Revive | Holds water in the upper dermis |
| Thin, tired, easily irritated skin | Polynucleotides (PN): Rejuran, Rejuran HB, Rejuran I | Purified salmon-DNA fragments that support repair |
| Lost firmness, crepey texture | Collagen stimulators: Juvelook (PDLLA), DCLASSY (CaHA), Re2O | Prompts your own collagen over weeks |
| Enlarged pores, acne scars, redness | Device plus booster: Potenza Exosome | RF microneedling channels with an exosome booster |
| Oily shine, fine surface lines | Micro-dosed toxin | Highly diluted botulinum toxin placed superficially |
Read across your own row, not down the whole column. If two rows both describe you, it usually makes sense to treat the concern that bothers you more first and judge that result before adding anything else.
What do PN, PDRN, PDLLA and HA mean on a booster menu?
PN, PDRN, PDLLA and HA name the active ingredient, and the ingredient decides what a booster can do. HA hydrates, PN and PDRN support repair, PDLLA and CaHA stimulate collagen, and exosome products are paired with microneedling. Brand names sit on top of these few ideas.
PN and PDRN both come from purified salmon DNA. A review in Pharmaceutics comparing the two describes PDRN as shorter fragments and PN as longer chains with more structural body in the skin. That body is part of why PN boosters such as Rejuran can leave small raised points for a day.
A systematic review of polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine found reported improvements in skin texture and elasticity across the included studies, with mostly mild, short-lived side effects, while the evidence base is still modest in size. Our longer Rejuran guide goes deeper on PN alone, and the Rejuran treatment page covers the three versions.
Collagen stimulators are the slow family. Juvelook is poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA), DCLASSY is calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), and Re2O (often typed as 're20') is a collagen booster made from human-derived acellular material. Change from this group builds over weeks, so judging it on day three is too early; there is more on how PDLLA collagen boosters work in a separate post, and the Juvelook treatment page lists the areas it is used for.
Exosome boosters at HERA are not injected on their own. Potenza Exosome pairs Jeisys' Potenza RF microneedling with an ASCE+ exosome booster, aimed at pores, scars and redness.
Who is a good candidate, and who should wait?
Good candidates have a skin-quality problem: dehydration, dullness, fine texture, pores or shallow scarring. If your main concern is sagging, deep folds or lost volume, a booster is usually the wrong tool, and some people should postpone any injection for now.
In general medical practice, booster injections are commonly postponed or adjusted for:
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- an active breakout, cold sore or skin infection in the area
- a recent filler, laser or toxin treatment in the same zone that hasn't settled
- a flare of an autoimmune skin condition
- a known fish or salmon allergy, which matters for PN boosters
- blood thinners, which raise bruising risk (mention them; never stop a prescribed medicine on your own)
The alternative depends on what you actually want. A jawline that has softened needs lifting, which at HERA means the thread and ultrasound options rather than a booster. Dark spots are mainly a pigment question, and a booster plays a supporting role at most.
Not sure which row is yours? A daylight photo of your bare face, taken facing a window, plus one sentence about the problem you'd change first is enough to start the conversation on WhatsApp. The final plan is made at the in-person consultation.

Can a skin booster give you Korean glass skin?
Most glass-skin photos online are shot under soft front light, over makeup and a fresh layer of skin care. A booster can improve hydration and surface texture, which is one part of that look, but not the lighting or the base. Results vary from person to person.
What a booster can change is the canvas: skin that holds water better, reflects light more evenly and shows fewer fine dehydration lines. If you want to see how skin readings shape that kind of plan, this post on the four skin readings behind a glass facial plan covers it.
What happens during a booster session at HERA?
Under a minute: that is how long the EVE V MUSE AI skin scan takes, and it comes after the consultation and before the plan. From there a session moves then to the injections, and ends with aftercare guidance for your stay in Seoul. An English interpreter is available for the consultation.
- 40+ skin indicators read by the EVE V MUSE scan
- 16 Baumann skin types used to classify your skin
- < 1 min for the scan itself
- Consultation. You describe the one problem you'd change first; the interpreter carries the detail both ways.
- Scan. The EVE V MUSE AI skin analysis uses five 16-megapixel structured-light cameras and 3D mapping to turn pigment, redness, pores and texture into numbers.
- Plan. Which booster, which areas, and whether a series makes sense for your skin.
- Treatment. Numbing cream is commonly used with many boosters before the small, shallow injection points; whether you need it is settled at the consultation. Potenza Exosome uses microneedling instead of individual injections.
- Aftercare. You leave with guidance for the days you'll spend in Seoul.
The doctor who plans your booster is the doctor who injects it
At HERA, the specialist who consults with you is the one who performs your treatment, with no hand-off to a junior. For boosters this matters, because depth and spacing are decided point by point on your face rather than on a protocol sheet.

A few signs usually shift the choice during an exam. Skin that looks thin and slightly translucent over the cheekbones leans toward PN. Pores and uneven texture that show up under side lighting lean toward microneedling. Fine lines that appear only when you move are a different problem from lines that stay at rest, and skin that turns red within minutes of cleansing calls for a gentler start.
Recovery on day 0, day 3 and day 7, and the risks to know
Most booster injections leave small bumps, redness or pinpoint bruises on day 0, which commonly settle within a few days; a bruise can take about a week to fade. Plan the injections at least two to three days before your flight, never the day before.
- Day 0: raised injection points (more noticeable with PN), redness and mild swelling; Potenza Exosome usually leaves a sunburn-like flush. Makeup is usually advised against for the rest of the day.
- Day 3: most bumps have flattened, bruises may be turning yellow, and skin can feel tight or dry.
- Day 7: leftover bruising is usually fading. HA boosters show their hydration effect early, while collagen stimulators are only beginning to work.
The FDA's page on dermal fillers lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash as common side effects, and warns that a rare but serious risk is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, which can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. Skin boosters are placed more superficially and in smaller amounts than volumising filler, but the same categories of risk apply to any injectable.
Infection, small lumps (more relevant to collagen stimulators) and allergic reactions are uncommon. Pain that gets worse instead of better, skin that turns pale or dusky, or any change in vision needs medical attention the same day.
Before you fly
Avoid booster injections the day before departure. If a bruise, a lump or a flare needs a second look, it is far easier to be seen while you're still in Seoul.
Visiting HERA in Gangnam
HERA is at 4F, 9 Seocho-daero 73-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 9. Hours are Monday and Friday 10:00–20:00, Tuesday to Thursday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00; the clinic is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
HERA is registered with Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare as a medical institution for foreign patients, and consultations can run through an English interpreter; HERA's English homepage lists the treatment categories. If you land on a Saturday evening, the clinic is closed on Sunday and reopens Monday at 10:00, so build that gap into your dates.
When you're ready to plan, send your daylight photo, your one-sentence concern and your travel dates on WhatsApp. HERA's international patient team can help plan the visit from there, and the booster itself is chosen at the in-person consultation in Gangnam.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1How many skin booster sessions do people usually need?
It depends on the booster and on your skin. PN and collagen-stimulating boosters are commonly planned as a short series spaced a few weeks apart, while hydration boosters may be repeated as the effect fades. The number for you is decided in the consultation.Q2Is a skin booster the same as a filler?
No. A filler adds volume or shape in a specific spot, while a skin booster places smaller amounts more superficially across an area to change skin quality. Some hydration boosters share an ingredient with fillers (hyaluronic acid) but are used very differently.Q3Do Korean skin booster injections hurt?
Most people describe a series of quick stings or pressure points rather than lasting pain. Numbing cream is commonly used with many boosters, and tolerance varies from person to person. Microneedling-based treatments feel different from individual injections.Q4Can I go sightseeing in Seoul after a skin booster?
Walking around the city is usually fine, though small bumps or redness may be visible on the first day. Saunas, intense exercise and heavy drinking are generally avoided for a day or two, and sun protection matters. Leave a few days between treatment and your flight home.Q5Does Rejuran contain fish DNA, and does that matter for allergies?
Rejuran is a polynucleotide booster derived from purified salmon DNA. If you have a known fish or salmon allergy, tell the doctor before treatment so it can be weighed against other booster families.
