Shurink is a Korean-made HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) lifting device from Classys, sold outside Korea as Ultraformer, and it suits mild to moderate sagging along the jaw, cheeks and under the chin better than deep folds or lost volume. What is Shurink, and how does the ultrasound reach the deeper layer?
Shurink focuses ultrasound energy into small heated points beneath the skin, aimed as deep as the SMAS, the fibrous support layer under the fat, with no incisions.
The mechanism is set out in a 2023 systematic review of microfocused ultrasound, the close relative of HIFU used in Ultherapy. Energy turns into heat in zones of roughly 1 mm³ at set depths, about 1.5 mm, 3 mm and 4.5 mm, with the deepest reaching the SMAS. Collagen contracts at once, and new collagen keeps forming for months afterwards.
That timeline matters when you're travelling. The face you take onto the plane is day one of a slow change, and the review followed improvement out to a year.
HERA's published lifting menu lists two HIFU-type treatments: AI-Mapping Ultherapy, where an Eve V Muse AI scan measures wrinkle depth, volume and lifting angle before the lines are planned, and 10Thera Lifting, a 2-line HIFU lift. Who a HIFU lift like Shurink suits, face by face
HIFU tends to suit adults with early to moderate sagging, skin that still has some thickness, and a moderate amount of soft tissue over the jaw. The 2023 review found its clearest evidence in mildly to moderately lax facial skin, and listed heavy laxity and a BMI over 30 as relative contraindications because results fell off in those groups.

Risks and side effects to know
The side effects reported in the 2023 review are worth reading before you go:
- During treatment: most people feel it.
- Afterwards, almost everyone: temporary redness, sometimes with swelling.
- Rare, about 2% of 573 patients: bruising, temporary numbness or hypersensitivity, small skin burns including along the jaw, and lines (striae) on the neck.
Every study in that review enrolled women, and data beyond one year is thin, so treat long-term claims from any device with some caution.
Some people with very lean faces worry that heat in the fat layer will leave them looking hollow. Good evidence either way is limited, which is one reason the depth choice should follow an assessment of how much soft tissue is there. For anyone treated abroad, the U.S. CDC's medical tourism guidance recommends carrying copies of your medical records home and planning follow-up care before you travel. Ask for a note of the areas treated so a doctor at home can see what was done.
Why the doctor who plans the lines should be the one treating
Ultrasound is delivered line by line, so a plan only holds if the person who read your face also sets the depth and position of each pass. How long is recovery, and can you fly the next day?
Most people walk around Seoul the same afternoon. Redness typically fades within hours to a day, and tenderness or mild swelling along the jaw can last several days. Flying the next day is usually possible, but treating the day before your flight leaves no time to have anything unusual looked at.

Before you fly
Book the treatment at least two days before departure if your dates allow. If you notice numbness, a blister or raised lines that don't fade, message the clinic with a photo before you leave Korea.
If your dates are already fixed, they are the most useful thing to send along with your two photos. The doctor reviews both and can tell you which day of your trip suits the treatment, and whether ultrasound alone or a combination looks like the better fit for your face.

Visiting HERA in Gangnam
HERA is at 4F, 9 Seocho-daero 73-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, about three minutes from Gangnam Station. Hours are Monday and Friday 10:00–20:00, Tuesday to Thursday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00; the clinic is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Consultations can run with an English interpreter.
On a Friday-to-Monday trip, Friday or Saturday is the realistic treatment day. Sunday is closed, and a Monday slot would mean treating on the day you fly.
