Is a Korea glass skin treatment going to give you a real glow, or just bumps, bruises and a photo nobody notices?
Read on before you book flights or decide on a session.
After reading, you will know what a glass skin plan contains, what decides its price, what results to expect, and which claims in review threads hold up medically, so you can decide how to use your days in Seoul.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Jong Seon, Director, Gangnam HERA Plastic Surgery Clinic.
At HERA, your skin is read as data before any procedure: the EVE V MUSE scan measures 40+ skin indicators in under a minute, so the plan starts from what your skin shows. We offer polynucleotide boosters such as Rejuran, and we are in Gangnam, Seoul.
Many people write to me because they believe one session turns tired skin into the glass skin in the photos.
The short answer: a Korea glass skin treatment is usually a short plan of skin-booster injections, not one procedure. Boosters improve hydration and texture, but they do not lift sagging or clear sunspots.

Who it suits, and when I'd point you elsewhere
Skin boosters work on the skin itself: how much water it holds, its fine texture, the flat look of a tired barrier. If your face feels tight by noon however much cream you use, and fine crepey lines appear when you smile, these treatments were designed for you.
If something else is breaking the reflection, a booster is the wrong use of your days off.
Risks and side effects to know
Active breakouts need treating first, as described in what a Seoul clinic can and cannot do for acne, and pitted scars need resurfacing, explained in our acne scar treatment guide for Korea. Sagging along the jaw and deep folds are a third case. The shadows they cast spoil a glassy finish at any level of hydration, and that belongs to lifting.
I'd also ask you to wait if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or if there's an infection, cold sore or breakout where the needles would go. Tell the doctor about blood thinners and supplements that raise bruising, any history of cold sores, and any fish allergy, since Rejuran is made from purified salmon DNA.
What goes into a Korea glass skin treatment?
At HERA the pieces come from the skin-booster menu, chosen for what your skin is missing. The full list sits on the HERA Gangnam homepage; these three are what people usually mean by glass skin.
| Treatment | What it mainly works on | What it won't change |
|---|---|---|
| Aqua Glow Injection (hyaluronic acid) | Deep moisture for a dewy surface | Pigment, sagging |
| Rejuran, Rejuran HB, Rejuran I (polynucleotides) | Elasticity, hydration, texture | Brown spots, deep folds |
| Potenza Exosome (RF microneedling with an exosome booster) | Pores, scars, redness | Volume loss, sagging |
A dermatologist and a plastic surgeon see you together, so hydration, pigment and laxity are planned in one consultation.
Why not just buy a serum? A 2000 paper in Experimental Dermatology described the "500 Dalton rule": molecules larger than about 500 daltons generally don't pass through intact skin. Much of the hyaluronic acid in creams is far larger, so at home it mostly hydrates the surface. Sunscreen, a cleanser that doesn't strip and a moisturizer still do the daily work, and no injection replaces them.
Can one visit really give you glass skin?
Usually not the version in the photos. From the 40s on, skin holds less water, and part of the dullness comes from structure underneath, which a booster doesn't rebuild in one sitting.
Skin boosters are commonly given as a series a few weeks apart, because the change builds as the skin responds. After a single session many people see a modest gain in hydration and texture. If you can only come once, plan around that and ask at your consultation what to do between trips.
The research is encouraging but young. A 2025 systematic review of polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine reported improvements in skin quality across the studies it included, while noting that many were small and used different protocols.
Say you are 47, visiting Seoul for six days, and your main complaint is that your skin looks flat and dry by afternoon, with a little loosening along the jaw. I would first look at whether the dullness is mostly dehydration, uneven pigment or lost firmness. If it is mostly dryness, a booster plan can make sense, and I would tell you honestly that it improves hydration and texture and will not lift the jaw. If the loosening bothers you more than the dullness, I would point you to a different treatment instead of spending your short trip on boosters. The question is what your skin lacks, not how many sessions you can fit in.
What can go wrong with glass skin injections?
Most of what you'll see afterwards is expected and fades within days: small raised bumps at each injection point, redness, mild swelling and pinpoint bruises. After hyaluronic acid microinjections, the bumps can look like a grid across the cheeks for the first day or so.
Less common are bruises that take a week or longer to clear, especially on thinner mature skin or if you take blood thinners. Small lumps where product sits unevenly, acne-like spots, a cold-sore flare in people prone to them, and infection if the skin isn't kept clean in the first day are also possible.
Rare but serious: any hyaluronic acid injected into the face carries a small risk of entering or pressing on a blood vessel. Superficial microinjections are less likely to do this than deep filler, but the warning signs are the same: pain out of proportion, skin turning pale or mottled, or any change in vision. That needs medical attention the same day, one more reason to be treated early in your stay.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to plan follow-up care at home before leaving and to keep copies of their records. Before you fly, ask for the names of the products used and the date of each session, and keep them with you, so a dermatologist at home can work from them if anything changes.
How much you notice, and for how long, differs from person to person, and the final plan is made at the in-person consultation.
The doctor who plans it is the one who injects
Flying to Seoul for your skin should not mean an assembly line. The doctor you meet at consultation is the doctor who treats you, with no handoff, and we don't rush through high volumes.
We use only genuine, approved products, and the sealed vial is opened in front of you.
I sit on the board of the International Petit Medical Society, and HERA's directors keep attending academic conferences at home and abroad so that what we inject rests on evidence. HERA is registered with Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare as a medical institution for international patients.
How long do the bumps and bruises take to settle?
For many people the visible part is short. This is how the first week after booster injections commonly goes; yours can be faster or slower with the treatment chosen and how easily you bruise.
- Same day: bumps, redness and some swelling. Doctors commonly advise skipping makeup, saunas, hard exercise and alcohol for the rest of the day.
- Around day 3: most bumps have flattened, and bruises are fading toward yellow and can usually be covered.
- Around day 7: bruising has usually cleared, and the change in hydration starts to show as the swelling settles.
You'll have aftercare guidance from HERA during your stay in Seoul.
Avoid booking the day before you fly
Have injections early in your trip, so that if a bruise, a lump or anything unexpected appears, you can be seen in Seoul and not after you land at home.
What decides the price of a Korea glass skin treatment?
The price depends on the method: hyaluronic acid microinjections, a polynucleotide booster such as Rejuran, or a combination of the two. It also depends on how much area is treated and how many sessions your skin needs. Whether numbing is used and how many days you can spend in Seoul change the plan too, because boosters are often spaced out rather than done at once. Follow-up matters as well, since skin needs time to settle before you judge the result. To get the figure for your case, send a bare-face photo in daylight on WhatsApp and ask what your plan would involve.
Visiting HERA in Gangnam

HERA is on the 4th floor of 9 Seocho-daero 73-gil, Seocho-gu, a 3-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 9. Consultations are available with an English interpreter.
We're open 10:00β20:00 on Mondays and Fridays, 10:00β19:00 Tuesday to Thursday and 10:00β17:00 on Saturdays, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you land on a Saturday evening, Monday is the first day you can be seen, so count back from your flight home before choosing dates.
Before you book flights, send one bare-face photo in daylight on WhatsApp, along with a list of what you put on your skin now, any medicines you take, and your travel dates. Then ask one question: which treatment should come first if my trip has room for only one session? One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to the clinic, I examine your skin and recommend what fits it.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1Is a Korean glass skin facial the same as a glass skin treatment?
Not usually. A glass skin facial generally means cleansing, exfoliation and masks on the surface, which can leave skin looking fresher for a few days. Clinic glass skin treatments place hyaluronic acid or polynucleotides into the skin with fine needles, so they come with injection side effects and a change that builds over weeks.Q2How can I get Korean glass skin at home without injections?
Daily sunscreen, a cleanser that doesn't strip, a moisturizer suited to your skin, and treating pigment or breakouts when they appear do most of the daily work. Injections add water content deeper in the skin than creams reach, but they sit on that foundation and don't replace it.Q3Does a fish allergy rule out Rejuran?
Rejuran is made from polynucleotides purified from salmon DNA, so tell the doctor about any fish allergy or past reaction to an injectable before treatment, so it can be weighed in person. Hyaluronic acid-based boosters are a different option.Q4How long does the glow from a skin booster last?
For many people it fades gradually over a matter of months as the skin returns to its baseline, which is why boosters are usually repeated. How long you notice it varies with age, skin type, sun exposure and the product used, so ask at your consultation how maintenance would fit around your trips.Q5Can I combine a glass skin treatment with laser or skin micro-toxin on the same trip?
Often yes, but the order matters: pigment lasers and needle-based treatments both inflame the skin for a few days, and stacking them close to your flight adds swelling you would carry home. At HERA a dermatologist and a plastic surgeon see you together, so the combination and its order are planned in one consultation.
