Korean Acne Treatment: What a Seoul Clinic Can and Cannot Do

I'm Dr. Jin Yi Han, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and former director of Bundang HERA Plastic Surgery. Patients planning a trip to Korea often write to me before they book anything, and when the concern is acne, the question is nearly always the same: "I keep hearing about Korean acne treatment. Can I fix my skin in one visit to Seoul?" My honest answer: a Korean clinic can calm inflamed, breakout-prone skin and start rebuilding texture, but acne is not cured in one appointment — and I would rather say that first.
What does "Korean acne treatment" actually mean?
In a Korean clinic, it usually means in-office procedures that calm the skin and repair texture, not a shelf of products. Korean skincare gets most of the attention online, but what clinics offer is different: devices and skin boosters, performed by a doctor, that work in the dermis where topical products cannot reach well.
At HERA the main treatment for breakout-prone skin is Potenza Exosome: RF microneedling from Jeisys combined with an ASCE+ exosome skin booster. Ultra-fine needles open micro-channels and deliver radiofrequency energy into the dermis, and the exosome booster is absorbed through those channels far more deeply than it would be from the surface.
What can clinic treatment do for acne-prone skin?
It calms redness and irritation, refines pores and texture, and supports the skin's own repair. Potenza Exosome is designed for people who break out frequently and whose skin feels inflamed, and it addresses several things at once.

What can it not do?
It cannot switch acne off permanently, and it does not replace ongoing medical care at home. Acne is driven by hormones, oil, bacteria and inflammation, and those do not stop because you had a procedure. A clinic session calms the skin and improves its quality; it does not change why you break out.
If your acne is very active — painful, deep, infected lesions — a doctor may advise letting it settle before microneedling. And if you are already on treatment from your own dermatologist, keep them informed; the aim is to add to that care, not compete with it.
How many sessions will I need?
A series is often recommended, and your doctor sets the schedule for your skin. Many people notice smoother, more hydrated skin within the first weeks, while collagen-related improvements in texture, pores and firmness build gradually over the following weeks. Results are generally maintained for about 6 months to 1 year.
For a patient flying in, I plan around the trip honestly: what one session can achieve, whether a second fits the dates, and what you should do at home until the next visit. A session takes about 30 minutes after numbing.
How do I plan acne treatment around a trip to Seoul?
Put the treatment early in your stay and protect your skin afterwards. Mild redness, warmth or slight swelling may appear right after treatment and typically settles within a day or two, so most people return to normal activities right away. Diligent sun protection and hydration matter most in the days that follow.
- Arrive with clean skin and a list of anything you use or take for acne.
- Avoid booking the day before a flight if you can — it is easier to settle skin in Seoul than on a plane.
- Plan the next step before you leave: a return session, or a clear home routine.
What if the breakouts have already left marks?
That is a separate plan — scars are treated after the skin has calmed. Depressed acne scars respond to collagen-stimulating treatment over several sessions, and some patients combine Potenza with skin boosters such as Juvelook or Rejuran. "Is it painful?"
A topical numbing cream is applied first, so most people tolerate it well. You may feel mild warmth or light pricking during the microneedling.
"Can I wear makeup after?"
Ask your doctor on the day; the skin is usually calm again within a day or two, and sun protection comes first.
