Is Korean scar removal worth a flight when you only have one trip to Seoul? Read on before you book anything.
After this post you will know what decides the cost, which methods suit which scars, what review threads get right and wrong, and how many days to leave before your flight.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Jong Seon, Director, Gangnam HERA Plastic Surgery Clinic.
At HERA we use Potenza Exosome, which pairs RF microneedling with an exosome booster for scars, pores and redness, and our AI skin analysis re-scans your skin so change can be followed over time.
Many people write to me because a review made it sound as if one session clears a scar, and then they plan a short trip around that.
The short answer is that most acne and texture scars soften and level over a series of treatments, so one visit is a start rather than a finish.

Can one trip to Seoul remove a scar?
One session can start the change, but it rarely finishes it. Collagen-stimulating treatments such as RF microneedling make tiny, controlled injuries in the skin so it lays down new collagen, and that rebuilding carries on for weeks to months after you've flown home.
The American Academy of Dermatology's guide to microneedling for scars describes it as a course of treatments with results that build gradually. For depressed acne scars, the AAD's overview of acne scar treatment also notes that dermatologists often combine more than one approach. Both points lead to the same planning rule: treat the trip as the first step of a plan.
That changes how you should judge the week. The face you fly home with on day seven is healing skin, and for many people the change they came for is still forming in the months after.
What matters most for planning is how deep the scar sits and how its edges behave. A soft, rolling dip that flattens when you stretch the skin tends to respond to collagen work. A narrow, deep pit that stays put under stretching is a different problem, and spending your whole trip on microneedling for it would be the wrong trade.
Which scars suit skin treatment, and which need a different plan?
Depressed (atrophic) acne scars and uneven texture are what the skin treatments on our menu are aimed at. Raised scars, keloids and scars from surgery usually need a different plan, often starting with a dermatologist or with the surgeon who operated.
| Scar type | How it usually responds | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Rolling or boxcar acne scars | Often soften with a series of collagen-stimulating sessions | First session in Seoul, later sessions planned around it |
| Ice-pick scars | Narrow and deep; often need a targeted technique such as minor surgery | Ask about it at consultation before building a trip on microneedling |
| Red or brown marks after acne | Usually discoloration, not a true scar; often fade with time and sun protection | Daily sunscreen may matter more than sessions |
| Raised (hypertrophic) or keloid scars | Managed differently; energy-based microneedling needs caution | Talk to a dermatologist before booking flights |
| Scars from eyelid or nose surgery | Best reviewed first with the surgeon who operated | Rarely a reason to fly for skin treatment alone |
Brown marks deserve a separate line because they are common and often mistaken for scars. DermNet describes postinflammatory hyperpigmentation as flat discoloration left after inflammation, more common in darker skin, that often fades slowly by itself. If that's most of what you see in the mirror, sunscreen and patience can do a lot, and aggressive treatment can make the marks darker.
People also search for help with canthoplasty scars or scars from rib cartilage rhinoplasty. Surgical scar revision is not on HERA's treatment menu, and I'd want the surgeon who operated involved before anyone treats over their incision, because they know what lies underneath.
If what bothers you after rhinoplasty is the shape of the nose more than the scar, what nose filler can and cannot do and what threads can and cannot do for a nose cover the non-surgical side.
I'd hold off on scar sessions if you have active breakouts in the area, if you've taken isotretinoin recently, if you've formed keloids before, or if you arrive sunburned from a beach stop on the way. Each of these raises the chance of irritation or new marks. For each acne scar method in more depth, the acne scar treatment guide on this site goes through them one by one.
Say you have pitted acne scars on both cheeks, you land in Seoul on a Monday and fly out the following Sunday. I would first look at whether the scars are shallow and even or deep and tethered, because that decides if skin treatment fits at all. If it does, I would plan the first session early in your stay so redness has days to settle before the flight, and talk through what later sessions could look like when you are back home.
You may have read reviews saying one session cleared everything. Scars rarely behave that way, so I would rather tell you the realistic number of sessions at the start than let you plan around a single visit.
What a scar visit at HERA includes
The visit has three parts on the same day: a consultation, an AI skin analysis, and the treatment itself. The single-visit format is designed around a traveller's tight schedule, which is why it suits a trip of a week or less.
The analysis uses EVE V MUSE, which builds a 3D map of the face's volume, contour and asymmetry, and sorts skin into one of 16 Baumann types. For scar planning, the part I find most useful comes later: the skin can be scanned again under identical light and positioning and compared with your first data. That gives you something measurable to look at when you return for another session, instead of relying on memory and phone photos.
Juvelook is a PDLLA collagen-stimulating booster used for smoother texture and firmness. Rejuran is a polynucleotide booster aimed at elasticity, hydration and texture.
Which one fits, or whether a combination makes sense, is decided with you at the consultation. I'd rather recommend the one thing your scar needs than three things that make the trip feel busy. On scarred skin, that is what avoiding overtreatment looks like in practice.
Who you'll actually see in the room
At HERA, the specialist who consults with you is the one who performs your treatment; it is never handed off to someone else between the consultation and the chair. For injectable boosters, only genuine, approved products are used, and the sealed vial is opened in front of you. An English interpreter is available for the consultation.
This matters more on a short trip than at home. You won't have three appointments to build trust, so knowing who will hold the device and what is going into your skin is part of deciding whether one visit is worth it.
How many days should you leave between a session and your flight?
Leave several days, and don't put a microneedling-type session on your last full day in Seoul. For many people the redness settles within a few days, but swelling and pinpoint marks can last longer in some skin, and dry cabin air on a long flight is hard on freshly treated skin.
On the day: expect redness, warmth and a feeling close to mild sunburn. Many people go back to the hotel instead of sightseeing that afternoon.
Around day 3: redness is usually fading, and dryness or light flaking is common. A hat and sunscreen matter most now, and long sessions in a hot sauna are better left for later in the trip.
Around day 7: for many people the skin looks close to its usual self, while the collagen work underneath is only getting started.
Before you fly
Book the session early in your stay. The clinic is closed on Sundays and Korean public holidays, and Saturday hours end at 5:00 PM, so check the Korean holiday calendar before you fix your dates.
Once you have flight times, send them on WhatsApp together with a second photo of the scar taken from the side in window light, where depth shows better than straight on, and ask which day of your stay the session should fall on.

What can go wrong after you fly home?
Most reactions after scar treatment are temporary, but some only show up after you've left Seoul. Decide before you travel who you would see at home if something worries you.
Risks and side effects to know
Common and temporary: redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness and flaking for several days, and sometimes a few small breakouts. Less common: redness that lingers for weeks, or darkening of the treated skin, which is more likely in darker skin types and after sun exposure. People prone to cold sores can have a flare-up after treatment around the mouth. Rare but serious: infection, or new scarring.
Increasing pain, heat, pus, blistering or fever are reasons to see a doctor locally the same day, not to wait for a message reply. Results differ from person to person, and whether a given treatment suits your skin is decided at the in-person consultation.
The U.S. CDC's medical tourism guidance advises carrying copies of your medical records and arranging follow-up care at home before you travel.
Later sessions are usually spaced several weeks apart. You can plan a return trip, or continue with a dermatologist at home. Either way, the baseline scan from your first visit gives you a fixed point to compare against.
What decides the cost of Korean scar removal in Seoul?
The cost depends on a few things that differ from one face to the next. The method matters, for example whether your scars suit RF microneedling with an exosome booster or need a different approach. The size of the area and how deep the scars are change how much treatment is needed. The number of sessions counts too, and that links to how many days you can stay in Korea and what follow-up you can do from home. Whether numbing is used can also shape the plan.
To get the figure for your own case, send a daylight photo of the scars on WhatsApp and ask for it there.
Visiting HERA in Gangnam
HERA is on the 4th floor of 9 Seocho-daero 73-gil, Seocho-gu, about three minutes from Gangnam Station. Hours are Monday and Friday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday to Thursday 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a lunch break from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. The clinic is registered with Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare as a Foreign Patient Attraction Medical Institution.

If you're thinking of adding something else to the same trip, ask in the same consultation whether it fits around your scar session days. Two posts help with the reading beforehand: how to read a filler result photo, and what micro-dosed toxin can and can't change for pores and texture.
To ask me about your scars, send a message on WhatsApp with one daylight photo of the area, what caused the scar, whether it has been treated before, and the dates you land and leave. Then ask the one thing that matters most to you: how many sessions scars like yours usually take. One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to the clinic, I will examine your skin and recommend the treatment that fits your scars and your schedule.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1Can a Korean scar cream do the same job as in-clinic treatment?
Usually not for depressed acne scars. Creams and silicone gels are mainly used on new or raised scars and on surface marks; they don't rebuild the collagen under a dip in the skin. They can still be part of daily care alongside sunscreen.Q2How many sessions will my scars need?
Collagen-stimulating scar treatment is commonly done as a series spaced several weeks apart, and the number depends on scar type and depth. The plan for your skin is set at the in-person consultation, so it helps to decide early whether later sessions will happen on a return trip or with a dermatologist at home.Q3Can HERA treat a scar from eyelid or nose surgery?
Surgical scar revision is not on HERA's treatment menu. For scars from canthoplasty or rhinoplasty, start with the surgeon who operated, since they know what lies under the incision.Q4Can I still sightsee after a session?
For many people, yes, from the next day. Plan a quiet first afternoon, wear a hat and sunscreen, and leave long hot saunas and heavy-sweat activities for later in the trip.Q5Should I stop any skincare before the trip?
Many doctors ask patients to pause retinoids and strong exfoliating acids for a few days before microneedling-type treatment, and to avoid a tan or sunburn. Mention everything you use, including any recent isotretinoin, at the consultation.
