Korean Skin Botox Before and After: What Really Changes

On this page
I'm Dr. Jong Seon Kim, a plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and a board member of the International Petit Medical Society, and most of my clinical day is spent on fillers and injectables. Skin botox is the treatment patients most often ask about with a screenshot rather than a photo of themselves, and the question is nearly always the same: "Will my skin look like this after Korean skin botox β the smooth, poreless before-and-after I keep seeing?" My honest answer: a real skin botox before and after shows pores that look finer, a smoother surface, a little more firmness and calmer redness. It is a real change in skin quality, but it is subtle, it does not give you a new face, and it lasts around three months. Much of what you see in online photos is lighting.
What does a real skin botox before and after show?
Finer-looking pores, smoother texture, slightly firmer skin, softer fine surface lines and less surface redness β clearest side by side in the same light. Those are the effects the treatment is designed for:
- Pores: enlarged pores look tighter and smaller, so the surface reads smoother.
- Elasticity: skin looks and feels a little firmer across the treated area.
- Texture and tone: a more even surface and a clearer, brighter look.
- Fine lines: superficial creases are softened; deep folds are not.
- Redness and hydration: surface flushing tends to calm and the skin holds moisture better.
What an honest photo does not show is a lifted jowl, a vanished wrinkle that was etched in at rest, or filled hollows. If a before-and-after shows those, something else was done or the photo was not taken under the same conditions.

How is skin botox different from regular botox in photos?
Regular botox changes movement; skin botox changes the surface. Regular botox is injected into a specific muscle to relax an expression line, so its before-and-after is about frowning or smiling. Our botox before and after guide covers that kind of result.
Skin botox β sometimes called micro-botox β delivers a highly diluted toxin into the superficial dermis across the whole face instead of into one muscle. Because it works in the skin layer, it is designed to refine quality without changing how your face moves. In a before-and-after, your expression should look the same; it is the skin over it that looks different.
When should you judge the result?
Not on the day and not the next morning β judge it once the skin has settled, with photographs rather than the mirror. Straight after treatment there can be mild redness or tiny injection marks, which usually settle within a day. That is the treatment, not the result.
The change in pores and texture shows over the following days and weeks. I ask patients to compare a photograph taken before the session with one taken later, in the same light and at the same angle, without makeup. Results typically last around three months, and because the effect is on skin quality, many people choose maintenance roughly every 2~3 months. Results vary from person to person.
Who sees the clearest before-and-after β and who doesn't?
People whose main concern is the surface β pores, texture, fine lines, redness β see the clearest change.
Good candidates
- Enlarged pores, especially across the cheeks
- Rough or uneven texture
- Fine surface wrinkles and creases
- Redness and uneven tone
- People who want a subtle lifted firmness without surgery
It can be placed across the full face, along the jawline and lower face, around the eyes, on the forehead, or on the neck and neckline.
Where skin botox is not the right tool
Deep folds, volume loss and heavy sagging will not change with skin botox; those need filler or lifting. Acne scars and pigmentation are different problems too β our guides to acne scar treatment and pico laser cover those. If your concern is overall skin regeneration rather than pores, Rejuran before and after shows what a skin booster does differently.

How should you read skin botox photos online?
Treat texture photos with suspicion unless the light, angle, makeup and camera match β texture is the easiest thing for lighting to fake. Soft front light hides pores; hard side light exaggerates them. A "before" under harsh light and an "after" under a ring light can make a result look far larger than it was.
- Check the light direction. Shadows should fall the same way in both photos.
- Check for makeup and filters. Bare skin in both, or the comparison means little.
- Check the timing. A photo on the day shows redness, not the result.
Our before-and-after gallery shows real HERA patient cases. Skin-quality changes are subtle and photograph less dramatically than filler or thread lifting, so for skin botox I take standardised photographs before your session β that way you compare your own skin, not someone else's.
What happens in the session, and what does skin look like right after?
A consultation, cleansing, numbing cream, even injections into the superficial dermis and a soothing step β about 20~30 minutes in total. A doctor first assesses your pores, texture and firmness and agrees the zones with you. The diluted toxin is then placed evenly across those zones with very fine needles.
Right afterwards you may see mild redness or small marks that usually fade within a day, and most people return to their day. For 1~2 days, avoid vigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and alcohol to limit swelling and bruising. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with a known sensitivity to botulinum toxin. Our skin botox guide covers the treatment itself in more detail.
What patients ask me next
"Will my face look frozen?"
It shouldn't. The dose is highly diluted and placed in the skin rather than the muscle, so expression is preserved.
"Can I combine it with muscle botox?"
Yes, and many people do β for example skin botox for texture with jaw slimming for shape. What drives the cost of that combination is set out in how much masseter botox costs in Korea, and the general pricing picture is in how much botox costs in Korea. Some patients also treat underarm sweating in the same visit β see hyperhidrosis treatment in South Korea.
"Does the toxin brand matter for skin botox?"
Less than the technique does. If you want to understand the products themselves, I compare them in Korean botox vs American botox.

The honest limits
Skin botox refines the surface; it does not lift heavy tissue, fill hollows or remove deep wrinkles, and it lasts around three months rather than indefinitely. The change is real but modest, and some skin responds more than others. What I can promise is a clear view of whether your concern is the kind skin botox improves, standardised photographs so you can judge it fairly, and a written estimate before anything begins.
Book a consultation
If you would like to know whether skin botox suits your skin, send a close-up photo in daylight without makeup. We will arrange a consultation in Gangnam, or a photo consultation first if you are still abroad. An English interpreter joins every visit, and you receive an itemised written estimate before anything begins β international and local patients pay exactly the same.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1What does Korean skin botox before and after look like?
Finer-looking pores, smoother texture, slightly firmer skin, softer fine surface lines and calmer redness. It is a real but subtle change in skin quality, not a lift or a new face.Q2How long do skin botox results last?
Results typically last around three months, and many people choose maintenance sessions roughly every 2~3 months. Results vary from person to person.Q3When should I judge my skin botox result?
After the skin has settled, not on the day: mild redness or tiny marks usually fade within a day, and the change in pores and texture shows over the following days and weeks. Compare photos in the same light and angle.Q4Is skin botox different from regular botox?
Yes. Regular botox is injected into a specific muscle to relax expression lines, while skin botox places a highly diluted toxin shallowly across the dermis to improve pores, texture and firmness without changing expression.Q5Is there downtime after skin botox?
Downtime is minimal; slight redness or tiny marks usually fade within a day. Avoid vigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and alcohol for 1~2 days.
