Hello, I'm Dr. Han Jin Yi, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA, and my focus here is skin boosters and skin regeneration. I want to tell you about Jade (@takemefxrfromhome) in my own words, because her situation is more common than people think. As she wrote, "Almost 8 years in Korea and I never went to an aesthetic clinic.. until now!!" She chose a skin booster known in Korea as 물광주사 — literally "water-glow injection," which we call the Aqua Glow Injection. Her own subtitle explains the goal plainly: "I decided to try a skin booster injection, for hydration and glow." This review is about why a hydration booster is often a sensible first step, what actually happens during the visit, and what you can and cannot expect from it.

Why is a water-glow injection a good first clinic treatment?

It is a good first step because it addresses the most common concern — dry, tired-looking skin — with a soft product, a short procedure and a quick return to daily life. A first visit to an aesthetic clinic is as much about trust as about skin. Many first-time patients are nervous about looking "done," about pain, or about committing to something long-lasting before they know how their skin responds. The Aqua Glow Injection answers all three. It does not change the shape of the face, the procedure itself takes within 15 minutes, and its effect is temporary by design, so it is a low-commitment way to see how your skin responds to injectable skincare. For someone who has never had any treatment, that matters more than chasing the strongest possible effect on day one.

What is the Aqua Glow Injection, and how is it different from filler?

The Aqua Glow Injection delivers hyaluronic acid directly into the dermis, where it can hold up to 200 to 300 times its weight in water. By replenishing deep moisture and supporting the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin, it aims to restore hydration, plumpness and elasticity to dry, tired skin, giving a dewy glow with smoother texture and softer fine lines. The difference from filler is the type of hyaluronic acid and where it goes. A traditional filler uses firmer, cross-linked hyaluronic acid to add volume or shape to one specific area; the Aqua Glow Injection uses a softer hyaluronic acid spread broadly through the skin to improve overall hydration, texture and elasticity. It is also different from collagen-stimulating boosters such as Juvelook, which work more slowly by prompting the skin to build new collagen. Water glow is the quickest, simplest member of the booster family, which is exactly why it suits a first visit.

What happened during her consultation and treatment?

Her visit followed four steps: consultation, cleansing, numbing, and injection. In her video, she first sits down for a consultation at a table with a hand mirror, where we went over her skin and what she hoped to change. A specialist evaluates hydration, elasticity and fine-line concerns at this stage, and this is also where we decide that a hydration booster, rather than something stronger, is the honest match. Makeup and impurities are then removed, and a topical numbing cream is applied so the injections stay comfortable. The hyaluronic acid is injected across the treatment zones of dry, depleted skin; in her video you can see the needle placed by hand along the cheek, which lets the injector adjust depth and spacing to the skin as they go. The full face is the usual area for overall glow, and the cheeks, the skin around the eyes, the forehead and the neck can be included depending on the concern. Afterwards, she rested with a soothing sheet mask on before heading home. Discomfort is generally mild, though sensitivity differs from person to person.

What does recovery look like, and how long does the glow last?

Downtime is short: small raised bumps at the injection points and mild redness are common and typically subside within a day or two. Most patients return to everyday activities right away. For the first one to two days, I ask patients to avoid saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and alcohol, which helps keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. Jade described her skin shortly afterwards this way: "It's only been a short time since the treatment, but my skin already feels smoother, more hydrated, and just healthier overall." That early feeling of hydration is typical, because the hyaluronic acid begins working as soon as it is placed. Results generally last around two to three months, because the skin gradually metabolizes hyaluronic acid. That is why follow-up is generally suggested every two to three months for people who want to keep the effect going. Results vary from person to person, depending on how dry the skin was to begin with and on daily habits such as sun protection.

What did we not add, and what could come next?

We did not add a collagen-stimulating booster, filler or a lifting device to her first visit, because none of them were needed for her goal of hydration and glow. Adding more on a first visit would have meant more swelling and more variables, without making the hydration result any better. If, after a few sessions, a patient wants more lasting change in texture or pores, that is the point at which I would discuss a collagen booster, or a regenerating option such as Rejuran for sensitive skin. The Aqua Glow Injection is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, so please share your medical history with us at consultation. At the end of her video she wrote, "I'm so happy with the results and I'll definitely be coming back!" At HERA in Gangnam, international patients are treated by a doctor, supported by English-speaking staff, and charged the same price as our Korean patients, with a written quote after consultation. We are a short walk from Gangnam Station Exit 9, as she noted in her post.

Good to Know

Questions patients actually ask

What is a water-glow injection (물광주사)?
It is a skin booster that injects hyaluronic acid into the dermis to restore deep hydration, plumpness and elasticity. At HERA it is called the Aqua Glow Injection.
Does the Aqua Glow Injection hurt?
Discomfort is generally mild. A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand, and the procedure itself takes within about 15 minutes.
How long does a water-glow injection last?
Results generally last around two to three months, because the skin gradually metabolizes hyaluronic acid. Follow-up every two to three months helps maintain the glow.
Is there downtime after a water-glow injection?
Downtime is short. Small bumps and mild redness at injection points usually settle within one to two days, and avoiding saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and alcohol for 1–2 days helps.
Is a water-glow injection the same as filler?
No. Filler uses firmer, cross-linked hyaluronic acid to add volume to one area, while the Aqua Glow Injection spreads a softer hyaluronic acid broadly through the skin for hydration and texture.
