Hello, I'm Dr. Han Jin Yi, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA, and my focus is skin boosters and skin regeneration β which includes helping patients whose skin is struggling with acne. The patient behind @meaper_film wrote one of the most candid captions we have received: "Having acne is a whole journey of pain tolerance and patience." In her video she explains that while her photos often look flawless, she has been dealing with hormonal acne. Her plan at HERA had two steps on the same day: a Neo Beam laser session, followed by an exosome treatment. I want to walk you through why that order made sense, what the session really felt like, and how her skin looked the day after and three weeks later.
What did the consultation focus on?
It focused on breakouts and oil first, and on overall skin health second. In her words, the consultation "was very detailed," and it included checking her skin "to see what are the needed procedure[s]." With active hormonal acne, my priority is different from a pure anti-aging plan. Before thinking about scars or pores in isolation, we need to calm what keeps producing new breakouts: excess sebum and inflammation. Only once that cycle quietens does it make sense to judge longer-term texture work. That reasoning shaped both steps of her visit.
What did the Neo Beam laser step do?
It was the step aimed at acne and oil. On screen she explains it in her own words, from the information she was given: the Neo Beam laser is meant "to improve acne and sebum by selectively destroying only the sebaceous glands," and "basically it rejuvenate[s] the skin" for "a healthy appearance." The logic is straightforward: if the oil glands that feed breakouts are less active, the skin has a better chance to calm down. Before the laser, numbing cream was applied, and she reports that she was "really numb" and "did not feel a thing" during this part. Protective eye shields were worn throughout. I won't quote device numbers or durability claims here, because the right settings are chosen for each person's skin at the time of treatment.
Why add exosomes, and how did that part feel?
Exosomes were added to support the skin's own renewal after the laser. Exosomes are tiny vesicles that carry signalling factors which support skin regeneration; on their own they are hard to absorb, which is why they are delivered through fine needles into the skin rather than simply applied on top. In her session they were delivered with a multi-needle injector. This was the part she found harder. During the consultation, she says, the doctor asked about her pain tolerance because it would "a little bit hurt," and during the procedure she "understood why he asked," because "it felt like 100 needle[s]." I appreciate that honesty. Numbing cream helps a great deal, but repeated fine needling is still felt by many people, and you should know that before you book.
What did her skin look like right after and the next day?
Right after, her face was red with visible needle points, and that was expected. She filmed her reaction β "I was shocked" β while her skin was still numb, then had calming care, a soothing sheet mask, and finally moisturiser and sunscreen. In her clips the next morning you can still see where the needle went. This short phase of redness and small marks is part of needle-based skin treatments and usually settles over the following days; gentle skincare and strict sun protection matter most during that time. If you have an important event, plan this kind of session with several clear days afterwards.
What did three weeks show?
Her video ends with three side-by-side close-ups of the same jawline area: "Before," "The day after treatment," and "Three weeks post treatment." In the three-week image the area looks calmer and clearer, and in her caption she writes that "seeing real improvements" gave her "so much more confidence." I am glad for her. I also want to be clear that hormonal acne rarely behaves in a straight line; it responds to hormones, stress, sleep and skincare as well as treatment. Results vary from person to person. Acne care is usually a series of steps plus a home routine, which is why her caption mentions that we guided her on "the right treatments and care routine."
What did we not do yet, and why?
We did not jump straight to scar-focused collagen boosters or aggressive resurfacing while her breakouts were still active. Treating scars while new inflammation keeps appearing tends to waste effort, because new marks keep forming. Once the skin is calmer, collagen-building options become far more useful β for example Potenza with exosomes, which combines RF microneedling with an exosome booster for pores, acne scarring and redness, or Juvelook for gradual texture improvement. Sequencing matters as much as the treatments themselves.
At HERA, every international patient is treated directly by a board-certified doctor with an on-site English interpreter, and receives a written quote after consultation at the same price our Korean patients pay.
Is This for You?
Who this treatment is genuinely for
Signs it may be time to consider it
- Breakouts flare around your jaw and chin in a monthly pattern
- Your skin gets oily again within hours of cleansing
- New breakouts keep appearing before old marks have faded
- Over-the-counter routines calm things briefly, then the cycle repeats
- You want a plan that addresses oil and inflammation, not just the visible spots
It's a good fit if
- You are dealing with recurring hormonal breakouts and oily skin
- Your skin looks fine in filtered photos but you know the breakouts keep coming back
- You want a doctor-led plan that calms breakouts before tackling scars
- You can allow a few days of redness and small needle marks after treatment
Not the right first step if: This plan isn't the right first step if you are pregnant, have an active skin infection, are taking medication that makes your skin photosensitive, or have an important event in the next few days β we always begin with an in-person consultation.

βIf this sounds like your skin, the most useful first step is not the strongest treatment but the right order: calm the oil and inflammation, then rebuild texture. Send me a few photos in daylight and tell me how often you break out, and I'll tell you honestly where I would start.β
