Jawline Filler Before and After: What Changes and What Doesn't

I'm Dr. Kim Jong Seon, the filler specialist at Gangnam HERA in Seoul, and a board member of both the International Petit Medical Society and the Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery (KSAS). People considering jawline filler almost always want to see results first, and the message usually comes with a screenshot of someone else's photo: "Will my jawline look like this after filler?" The honest answer starts with what filler changes and what it cannot. It can define a soft jawline and balance the lower face. It cannot slim a wide jaw, remove fat under the chin or lift jowls, and a before-and-after photo that seems to show those things deserves a closer look.
What does jawline filler change, before and after?
It adds volume along the jaw so a soft or undefined line reads as a clearer, more continuous contour, and the change is visible straight away. Hyaluronic-acid filler is placed along the jawline, and often at the chin, to define the edge of the lower face and balance it against the cheeks and forehead.
In a good before-and-after, three things usually look different. The line from the ear to the chin is easier to follow. The angle of the jaw is a little more defined from the side. And the chin, if it was part of the plan, sits in better proportion to the rest of the face. When the jaw is planned with the forehead and cheeks as one curve, we call that our C-line lifting filler.
The change should be quiet. People notice that your face looks more defined; they should not notice filler.

What does jawline filler not change?
It does not change bone, slim a wide jaw, remove fat or lift sagging skin β and those are the changes people most often expect from a photograph.
- A wide, square lower face is usually the masseter muscle. Filler would make it wider; botox is the tool. Compare our masseter botox before and after guide to see what that change looks like.
- Fullness under the chin or along the jaw is usually fat. Our Sok-Sok Face injection targets that instead.
- Heavy jowls or loose skin are laxity. Filler adds weight to sagging tissue; a lifting approach such as a PDO thread lift for the jawline addresses it.
If a jawline "after" photo shows a slimmer face, ask what else was done. Often it was not filler alone, and the photo is showing a combination you would need to plan for.
Where can I see real jawline filler before-and-after photos?
In our before-and-after gallery, which shows real HERA patients. We do not use illustrations or AI-generated images to show results, because a picture that is not a real patient is not a result.
For a broader view of filler outcomes across the face, our Korean filler before and after guide explains what is realistic in each area. If you are looking at the upper face too, forehead filler before and after covers the other end of the same C-line.

How should I read a jawline before-and-after photo?
Check that the angle, head position, lighting and expression are the same in both photographs β the jawline is the area most easily changed by how a photo is taken.
- Head tilt: lifting the chin slightly tightens the line under the jaw on its own. Compare photos taken with the head level.
- Angle: a three-quarter view shows a jawline most clearly. A front view and a three-quarter view are not comparable.
- Lighting: light from the side creates a shadow under the jaw that looks like definition.
- Expression: clenching the teeth makes the masseter bulge and changes the outline.
- Timing: a photo taken on the day includes swelling, so it can look fuller than the settled result.
When all of these match, the difference you see is much more likely to be the filler. That is how I would like you to judge any result, including ours.
When do you see the result?
Immediately β with some swelling on top for the first few days. The contour is visible as soon as the filler is placed. Mild swelling, redness or a small bruise can appear and usually settles within two to three days.
| When | What you usually notice |
|---|---|
| Same day | A visibly clearer line; the area can feel slightly full or tender |
| Days 2β3 | Swelling and any bruising usually settle |
| After that | The line you see is the one to judge, and a review can check symmetry |
| Months later | Gradual softening as the filler is absorbed |
Hyaluronic-acid filler generally lasts around 6 to 12 months for domestic products and 12 to 18 months for imported ones, depending on the area and your metabolism. Results vary from person to person. The change fades gradually, and many patients top up before it has fully gone.
What makes a good jawline result β and a bad one?
A good result looks like your own jaw on a well-rested day; a bad one looks heavy or square. The most common problems I see are:
- Too much volume: a jawline built too heavily looks older and wider, not sharper.
- The wrong point of emphasis: filling the jaw angle on a face that needed chin projection can make the lower face look broad.
- Ignoring the rest of the face: a defined jaw under hollow cheeks or a flat forehead can look out of place.
That is why I plan conservatively, assess the chin with the jaw, and review once swelling has settled. Our guide to jaw filler in Seoul covers who it suits, and chin filler covers the neighbouring area.

What are the honest limits?
Jawline filler defines the jaw you have; it is not permanent and it does not replace muscle, fat or lifting treatments. If the before-and-after you are hoping for is a narrower face, the right first step may be botox for the jawline rather than filler. If it is a sharper line on a jaw that has softened with volume loss, filler is often the right tool. How the estimate is built is explained in our jawline filler price guide, and the clinical detail is on our facial filler page.
Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if an adjustment is ever needed, which is one more reason I would rather start with less and add at a review than place everything in one visit.
Book a consultation
If you would like to know what jawline filler would change for you, send a photograph from the front and one at a three-quarter angle, with your head level and teeth relaxed. We will arrange a consultation in Gangnam, or a photo consultation first if you are still abroad. An English interpreter joins every visit, and you receive an itemised written estimate before anything begins β international and local patients pay exactly the same.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1What does jawline filler change before and after?
It adds volume along the jaw so a soft or undefined line looks clearer and more continuous, with the change visible straight away. It is often planned with the chin to balance the lower face.Q2Can jawline filler make my face slimmer?
No. A wide lower face is usually the masseter muscle, which botox treats; fullness under the chin is usually fat; and jowls are laxity. Filler defines the jaw but does not slim it.Q3Where can I see real jawline filler results?
HERA's before-and-after gallery on the Cases page shows real patients. HERA does not use illustrations or AI-generated images to show results.Q4When will I see the final jawline filler result?
The contour is visible immediately; mild swelling, redness or bruising usually settles within two to three days, after which the line can be judged and reviewed.Q5How long does jawline filler last?
Domestic hyaluronic-acid fillers generally last around 6β12 months and imported ones 12β18 months, depending on the area and metabolism. Results vary from person to person.
