Wondering whether Korean non surgical lipo will actually change anything, or whether you'll fly home, look in the mirror and see the same shape?
It's worth reading to the end before you book flights or decide.
After reading you'll know what fat-dissolving injections can and can't remove, what the cost depends on, what review threads claim versus what is medically true, and which methods are realistic for your area.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Jong Seon, Director, Gangnam HERA Plastic Surgery Clinic.
HERA is in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and is open Monday to Saturday. I'm a board member of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery, and the specialist who consults with you is the one who treats you.
People often write to me because "non surgical" sounds like liposuction without the operation.
It isn't. Korean non surgical lipo usually means fat-dissolving injections into one small pocket of fat, so it can't remove the volume liposuction does, and it works best on small, localized fat over firm skin.

What does a fat-dissolving injection actually remove?
In short, it breaks down fat cells in the pocket where it's injected, and that's all it does. Your body clears the treated fat slowly. That's why the slimming from Sok-Sok Face Injection shows up over 2β4 weeks rather than on the day. On the face, the targets are specific pockets: under the chin, along the jawline, the buccal fat and the side cheekbones.
Each facial session takes 10β15 minutes, usually with topical numbing cream. Doctors often recommend 2β3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart. One session on one trip is a start, not the whole plan.
What the injection can't do matters just as much. It doesn't tighten skin. It doesn't reach the fat packed around your organs beneath the abdominal muscles, and no treatment that works from the skin side does, liposuction included. It won't change your weight either. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes liposuction as a body-contouring procedure, not a substitute for weight loss. An injection treats a much smaller amount of fat than surgery does.
Who it suits, and when I'd tell you no
The person it suits can pinch the area between two fingers. Their weight has been stable for a while, and their skin springs back when they let go. In that situation, a modest reduction in a defined pocket tends to be something you can actually see.
These are the situations where I'd say no, or not yet:
- Skin that hangs. If your jawline or belly folds over when you lean forward, removing fat underneath may leave the area looking emptier rather than firmer.
- A large volume, or wanting to look slimmer overall. That's a question of weight, or of surgery. Injections treat pockets.
- A weight change on the way. If you plan to lose a lot of weight in the coming months, the shape of the area will change anyway.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, a rash or infection on the area, or a blood thinner you take. Raise any of these before anything is booked.
| What you see | What it often is | What may fit better |
|---|---|---|
| Soft fullness under the chin you can pinch | Localized fat | Sok-Sok Face Injection |
| Jowls that lift when you push the cheek up | Sagging tissue | Thread lifting |
If the jawline is sagging, Custom Thread Lifting is the option I'd discuss, and it takes 20β30 minutes. Threads have limits of their own, and I've set them out in what threads can and cannot do for a nose. If the real issue is texture, the guide on what RF microneedling can and cannot do fits better. Heaviness beside the mouth often comes from lost volume more than fat, which is why filler for nasolabial folds sometimes answers a question an injection can't.
Say you're 34 and have a small, soft pocket of fat under your chin that stays the same however much you exercise. You pinch it and it feels like fat, and the skin over it is still firm. In that situation I'd look at the pocket from the front and the side, then check how thick it is and how the skin behaves when you tilt your head. If it's localized fat over firm skin, fat-dissolving injections are a reasonable option to discuss, usually over a few sessions.
If the area is mostly loose skin, or the fat is spread over a large area, I'd tell you that injections are unlikely to give you what you want, and we'd talk about other options instead.
What can go wrong with Korean non surgical lipo?
Risks and side effects to know
The common part first. After Sok-Sok Face Injection, mild swelling, redness or small bruises at the injection sites usually settle within a few days. Injection lipolysis in general can also leave the area tender, or feeling firm under the skin, for a short time.
Less often, the result is uneven: one side responds more than the other, or the change after the first session is smaller than you hoped.
The rare problems are the serious ones. Some were given by people who may not have been properly licensed, and some were bought online and self-injected. Along the jawline, the nerve that moves the lower lip runs close to the surface. Injections in that zone have, rarely, caused a temporarily uneven smile.
You can protect yourself in a few ways. Ask for the name of the product and whether Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved it. Have it injected by a doctor. The CDC's medical tourism guidance recommends taking copies of your records home with you. If a lump grows, or redness spreads and feels warm once you're back, see a doctor near you promptly and take those details along. How you respond is individual, and the final plan for your area is made at the in-person consultation.
Why the doctor who consults is the one who injects
With this treatment, most of the work is judgment: is this fat or skin, where does the pocket end, how deep does the injection go? I'd rather that judgment stays in one head from the first look to the last injection, and at HERA it does. The doctor you consult with is the doctor who treats you, and the case is never handed off.
My position on products is short. Only genuine, approved products, with the sealed vial opened in front of you. We don't rush through high volumes. HERA is registered with Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare as a medical institution for international patients. I'm a board member of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery and a full member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and our directors keep attending academic conferences in Korea and abroad. Those meetings are where the evidence on treatments like this gets argued over.
How many days after the injection before you can fly?
On the day, a facial session takes 10β15 minutes with numbing cream, and you walk out with small marks at the injection points. By around day three, the swelling and bruising, which usually settle within a few days, are fading for many people. By day seven most people look like themselves again. The slimming itself is still building, though. It develops over 2β4 weeks, so you'll judge the result at home, not in Seoul.
Before you fly
Don't book the injection for the day before your flight. Put the session early in your trip so the swelling has a few days to settle while you're still in Seoul.
Sessions are spaced a few weeks apart, so a second session usually means a second visit. At the consultation, ask how many sessions an area like yours usually needs. That way you can decide whether this is a one-trip or a two-trip plan before you commit.
Is a non surgical tummy tuck or arm lipo in Korea realistic?
A tummy tuck removes loose skin and often tightens separated abdominal muscles. No injection does either. If your belly concern is a small pocket you can pinch, sitting over a firm wall, that's what Sok-Sok Body Injection is for: stubborn, localized body fat treated without surgery. The session plan for the body is set at the consultation. Don't assume the face timings above apply to it.
Arms follow the same test. Pinch the back of your upper arm. If you're holding soft fat, an injection may help. If the skin swings when you wave, removing fat won't fix the swing. People searching for a βKorean non surgical face liftβ are usually asking a different question, about sagging. That's answered with threads or lifting devices, not with fat removal.

What decides the cost of Korean non surgical lipo?
The cost depends on your area and how much fat is in it. A small pocket under the chin needs far less treatment than a broader area such as the upper arm or abdomen. The method matters, as does the number of sessions, because injections are usually spaced over several weeks rather than done in one visit. How many days you can stay in Korea and whether you need a follow-up check also change the plan.
If the main problem turns out to be loose skin rather than fat, a different treatment may fit better, and that changes the plan too. To get the figure for your case, send a clear photo of the area on WhatsApp and ask for it there.
Visiting HERA in Gangnam
We're on the 4th floor of 9 Seocho-daero 73-gil, Seocho-gu, about three minutes from Gangnam Station. Hours are 10:00β20:00 on Monday and Friday, 10:00β19:00 Tuesday to Thursday and 10:00β17:00 on Saturday, with a lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00. We're closed on Sundays and public holidays. Consultations are held with an English interpreter, and the treatment menu is on HERA's English homepage.
Before you book flights, send me one daylight photo of the area on WhatsApp, along with the dates you'll be in Seoul. Ask one question: how many sessions does an area like mine usually take? One photo is enough, and you can ask before you book anything. When you come to the clinic, I'll examine you and recommend the option that fits your area, whether that's injections or something else.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1Does the fat come back after fat-dissolving injections?
The treated fat cells are cleared by the body. The fat cells left in the area can still grow if you gain weight, so a stable weight helps keep the change you see.Q2Does a fat-dissolving injection hurt?
For Sok-Sok Face Injection, topical numbing cream is usually applied first. Many people feel stinging or warmth during the injection, and the area can stay tender for a few days.Q3Can I combine it with thread lifting on the same trip?
Some faces have both a fat pocket and sagging tissue. Whether both are worth treating, and in what order, is something to ask at the consultation, once the doctor has looked at which cause is behind your concern.Q4What decides the cost of fat-dissolving injections?
Mainly the area treated, the number of sessions it needs and whether another treatment is combined with it. International patients are charged the same as local patients. Send a photo on WhatsApp and the team tells you what applies to your case.Q5Is an English interpreter available during the consultation?
Yes. Consultations at HERA are held with an English interpreter, so you can ask about risks, sessions and aftercare in English.
