Potenza in Korea: What RF Microneedling Can and Cannot Do

I'm Dr. Jin Yi Han, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and former director of Bundang HERA Plastic Surgery. When someone searches for Potenza in Korea and then writes to me, the message usually reads like this: "I keep hearing that Korean clinics do Potenza well. What will it actually do for my skin, and is one visit enough?" My answer, before anything else: Potenza is radiofrequency microneedling that improves pores, texture, acne scarring and redness in breakout-prone skin. At HERA it is done together with an exosome skin booster. It is not a lifting treatment, and it works as a series rather than as a single session.
What is Potenza, and how is it done at HERA?
Potenza is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device from Jeisys, and at HERA we use it as Potenza Exosome β RF microneedling combined with an ASCE+ exosome skin booster. Ultra-fine needles open micro-channels in the skin while radiofrequency energy is delivered into the dermis. That controlled heat forms small coagulation zones, and the skin answers them by building new collagen.
The exosome booster is applied before the needling. On intact skin a booster mostly stays on the surface, because the outer layer is a barrier and that is its job. The channels the needles create let the exosomes and nutrients be absorbed far more deeply than a topical product could manage. That is why we run the two as one treatment instead of needling first and applying a serum afterwards. What does Potenza treat well β and what doesn't it treat?
It treats skin quality: enlarged pores, rough texture, acne scarring, redness and a weakened barrier. Those are the concerns it was designed for, and they are the concerns I use it for.
- Pores and texture β tightens enlarged pores and helps even out rough, uneven skin.
- Acne scarring β new collagen gradually softens depressed texture across a series of sessions.
- Redness and irritation β calms heat and flushing, including acne-related irritation.
- Fine lines β collagen stimulation and deep hydration soften them.
- Barrier and balance β supports regeneration, elasticity and hydration, and helps stabilise the skin's oil-water balance.
What it does not do is lift. If your jawline has softened or your cheeks have started to drop, Potenza will make the surface of the skin look better, but it will not move tissue. For laxity I would point you to a lifting treatment such as Thermage FLX instead. Using a texture treatment to chase sagging is the most common way I see people spend money on a trip without getting what they came for.
Who is a good candidate for Potenza in Korea?
People whose main complaint is the surface of the skin β pores, texture, scarring, redness β rather than its shape. The patients who do well with it usually recognise themselves in one or more of these descriptions:
- Skin that breaks out often and feels inflamed or flushed
- Enlarged pores, and acne scarring left by earlier breakouts
- Rough texture, or sensitive, atopy-prone skin
- A barrier worn down by environmental stress
- A wish to improve regeneration, elasticity and hydration at the same time
When I would wait
If acne is very active β painful, deep or infected lesions β I usually prefer to let the skin settle before microneedling it. Our Korean acne treatment guide explains that sequence. If you are pregnant, take medication, or have a skin condition that is already being treated, tell us before the consultation. A doctor reviews that first and decides whether Potenza is suitable for you now, later, or not at all.
What happens during a Potenza session?
The session takes about 30 minutes, and a doctor sets the plan before any energy is applied. This is the order we follow at HERA:
- Consultation β a physician examines your skin and your concerns and tailors the plan.
- Cleansing and numbing β the skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied.
- Exosome application β the ASCE+ exosome booster is applied to the treatment area.
- RF microneedling β fine needles deliver radiofrequency into the dermis and draw the exosomes deeper.
- Soothing and aftercare β calming care is applied, and you leave with skincare guidance.
Most patients describe mild warmth and a light pricking sensation rather than pain. Depth and energy are clinical decisions. Thin, sensitive skin and stubborn scarring are not treated in the same way, and choosing between them is the part of Potenza that belongs to the doctor rather than to the device. When you compare clinics, that is the question worth asking: who examines the skin, and who decides the settings?
How many sessions, and how do they fit a trip to Seoul?
A series is usually recommended, especially for pores and scarring, and we build it around your travel dates. Skin often looks smoother and more hydrated within the first weeks, while the collagen-related changes in texture, pores and firmness build gradually over the weeks after that. Results are generally maintained for about 6 months to 1 year.
Downtime is short. Mild redness, warmth or slight swelling is common straight afterwards and typically settles within a day or two, and most people return to their normal routine immediately. For a visit to Seoul, I suggest three things:
- Book early in your stay, not the day before a flight or an important event.
- Protect the skin from the sun diligently afterwards, and keep it well hydrated.
- Agree the next step before you leave β a return session, or what to do at home until then.
If you only have time for one visit, I will tell you what a single session can realistically start, and I will not describe it as the result of a full series. Results vary from person to person, and skin that has been stressed for years does not change on a schedule set by a flight.

The honest limits
Potenza improves skin quality; it does not lift, and it does not switch acne off. Acne is driven by hormones, oil, bacteria and inflammation, and a procedure does not change why you break out. Deep scars improve rather than disappear. Redness and swelling are common for a day or two, and side effects such as bleeding, infection or inflammation can occur; satisfaction differs between individuals. What I can offer is an honest reading of your skin before you book, and a plan that says plainly what one visit can and cannot do.
