Fat Dissolving Injections Korea Before and After: What Changes

On this page
I'm Dr. Jong Seon Kim, a plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and a board member of the International Petit Medical Society, and most of my clinical day is spent on fillers and injectables. People who search for fat dissolving before and after photos from Korea usually send me a screenshot and one question: "If I get fat dissolving injections in Seoul, will my chin or my stomach look like this afterwards?" My honest answer first: a good result is a smaller pocket of fat and a cleaner line in that one place β a softer double chin, a less heavy jawline, a flatter flank β and it arrives gradually over weeks, not on the day. It is a refinement of a contour, not weight loss. Results vary from person to person.
What does a real fat dissolving before and after look like?
A smaller, softer pocket of fat and a cleaner outline in the treated zone β the same face or body, slightly more defined. Fat dissolving injections deliver a lipolytic solution into a localized pocket of fat, where it breaks down fat cells; the body then clears the treated fat over the following weeks. In an honest photo, that shows up as a shorter curve under the chin, a jaw-to-neck line that reads more clearly, a cheek that looks less heavy, or a waist that dips in a little more where a love handle used to sit.
What an honest photo does not show is a different face, a lifted jowl or a lost dress size. When a before-and-after looks that dramatic, it is usually worth asking whether something else changed β weight, posture, lighting, or another treatment done in the same period.

When does the "after" actually appear?
Not on the day: slimming appears gradually over about 2β4 weeks for the face and 3β6 weeks for the body. This is the single most important thing to understand about before-and-after photos for this treatment, because a photo taken too early shows the wrong thing.
- The day of treatment β the session itself takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Right afterwards, the area can look slightly fuller, not smaller, because of mild swelling at the injection sites.
- The first few days β mild swelling, redness or small bruises are common and usually settle within a few days. Nothing you see in the mirror yet is the result.
- The following weeks β the dissolved fat is metabolized and cleared by the body, so the change builds slowly. For the face this is usually visible over 2β4 weeks; for the body, over 3β6 weeks.
- After the course β fat dissolving usually works as a series. For the face, 2β3 sessions are often recommended; for the body, 2β4 depending on the area. The fairest "after" photo is the one taken once the planned course has had time to work.
So when someone shows me a photo taken the next morning and says "it didn't work", or "it worked instantly", I gently say the same thing: at that point you are mostly looking at swelling.
What changes in each zone?
Each zone shows its change differently, and the face and body are planned as two separate treatments. At HERA the face is treated with Sok-Sok Face Injection and the body with Sok-Sok Body Injection. Dosing and injection points are mapped per patient and per zone, so the realistic "after" depends on where the fat sits.
Face
| Zone | What a good "after" shows |
|---|---|
| Double chin | Less fullness under the chin and a cleaner jaw-to-neck line |
| Jawline | A slimmer, more contoured lower-face outline |
| Cheek fat | A face that reads less heavy, with better overall balance |
| Around the cheekbones | Smoother, softer lines where fat pads had accumulated |
| Beside the nose | A little more definition at the side of the nose |
| Eye area | Smaller periorbital fat pockets, so the eyes look more defined |
Body
| Zone | What a good "after" shows |
|---|---|
| Abdomen | Less volume across the upper or lower belly |
| Flanks and love handles | A more defined waistline |
| Upper arms | A slimmer arm contour |
| Accessory breast | A smoother underarm and arm line |
| Thighs, back, inner knees and calves | A smoother, more balanced silhouette in that area |
Body zones usually take longer to show their change than facial ones, simply because they are larger surfaces. That is normal, not a sign that the body treatment is weaker.
Who sees a visible change β and who sees very little?
The clearest before-and-afters come from people with a small, localized pocket of real fat, a fairly stable weight and skin that still has reasonable elasticity. When those three are true, the change is easy to see in a fair photo.
The disappointing before-and-afters almost always have one cause: the fullness was not mainly fat. A square lower face is often the masseter muscle, which responds to Botox for the jawline rather than to fat dissolving β our masseter Botox before and after shows what that change looks like instead. Bulky calves are often muscle as well, which is why calf Botox exists. And a heavy jowl from descended tissue needs lifting, such as a thread lift, not less fat. How we tell these apart in consultation is set out in how to choose a clinic for fat dissolving injections in Korea, so I will not repeat it here β but it decides your before-and-after more than anything I inject.

How should you read fat dissolving before-and-after photos?
Compare like with like: same light, same angle, same posture, same weight β and know when the "after" was taken. Fat dissolving changes are modest in size, which means small differences in how a photo is taken can look bigger than the treatment itself.
- Head position β tipping the chin down creates a double chin; lifting it slightly removes one. Chin and jawline photos must be taken with the head in the same position.
- Posture and breathing β for the abdomen and flanks, standing straighter or breathing in changes the outline more than many treatments do.
- Lighting β light from above deepens shadows under the jaw; flat front light hides them.
- Timing β a photo taken in the first days mostly shows swelling. Ask how many weeks after the last session the "after" was taken.
- Sessions β ask how many sessions the person had. A result after a full course is not what one visit looks like.
- Weight β if the person lost weight in the same period, the photo is showing the diet as well.
Our before-and-after gallery is where you can see real HERA cases, and in consultation I will show you comparable ones for your zone, photographed the same way, and tell you how many sessions they took. I would rather you set your expectations from a fair photo than from a dramatic one.
How long does the result last?
Because treated fat cells are cleared by the body, the result is long-lasting as long as your weight stays stable. This is different from filler or Botox, which wear off and need repeating. With fat dissolving, the change you see after the course is meant to stay.
The condition matters, though. Remaining fat cells in the same area β and everywhere else β can still grow if you gain weight, and that can change your "after" over time. The patients who keep their result best are the ones who came in at a fairly steady weight and stayed there. If the result in one zone is less than we planned, we review it at your next visit rather than assuming you need more sessions.
What patients ask me next
"Will I see a difference after one session?"
Sometimes a little, in a small facial pocket, but most people need the planned course before the change is clear. I tell you at the start how many sessions I expect your zone to need, and why.
"Is the swelling a side effect or a sign it is working?"
Mild swelling, redness or small bruises are common and usually settle within a few days; they are not the result. Our guide to fat dissolving side effects explains what is normal and what should make you contact us.
"What will it cost to get a result like this?"
That depends on the zones and the number of sessions, so I write it as an itemised estimate after an assessment. Our fat dissolving injections price guide explains what moves the figure, and the fat dissolving injections guide covers the treatment itself.

The honest limits
Fat dissolving injections refine small pockets of fat; they do not change your weight, tighten loose skin or replace liposuction for large volumes. The change is gradual, it usually takes a course rather than one visit, and results vary from person to person β some zones respond sooner, some more slowly. Complications such as bleeding, infection or inflammation, as well as satisfaction, also vary between individuals. What I can promise is a fair "before" photo, an honest estimate of what your "after" is likely to be, and a straight answer if your fullness is not fat at all.
Book a consultation
If you are wondering what your own before and after could look like, send a photo of the area from the front and the side, in daylight, with your head or posture in a natural position. We will arrange a consultation in Gangnam, or a photo consultation first if you are still abroad. An English interpreter joins every visit, and you receive an itemised written estimate before anything begins β international and local patients pay exactly the same.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q1What does a fat dissolving before and after look like in Korea?
A smaller, softer pocket of fat and a cleaner outline in the treated zone, such as less fullness under the chin or a more defined waistline. It is a refinement of one contour, not weight loss, and results vary from person to person.Q2When do fat dissolving injection results appear?
Gradually, over about 2β4 weeks for the face and 3β6 weeks for the body, as the body clears the treated fat. In the first few days the area can look fuller because of mild swelling, so early photos do not show the result.Q3How many sessions does it take to see a clear before and after?
Usually a course rather than one visit: 2β3 sessions are often recommended for the face and 2β4 for the body, depending on the area and amount of fat. Your doctor confirms the plan at consultation.Q4Are fat dissolving results permanent?
They are long-lasting when your weight stays stable, because the treated fat cells are cleared by the body. Remaining fat cells can still grow with weight gain, which can change the result over time.Q5Why do some before-and-after photos show little change?
Most often because the fullness was not mainly fat. A wide jaw from the masseter muscle, bulky calves from muscle, or heavy tissue from laxity need Botox or lifting rather than fat dissolving, which is why a doctor's assessment comes first.
