Fat Dissolving Injection Clinics in Korea: How to Choose One

I'm Dr. Jong Seon Kim, a plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and a board member of the International Petit Medical Society, and most of my clinical day is spent on fillers and injectables. Patients who search for clinics for fat dissolving injections in Korea often send me a list of names and ask: "Which clinic in Seoul should I trust with this?" I will not rank other clinics, and I would be suspicious of any doctor who did. What I can give you is the checklist I would use myself: a good clinic has a doctor decide whether your fullness is really fat, designs the injections zone by zone, is honest about how many sessions it takes, and puts the price and the product in writing before anything begins. Below is each point, and how HERA works against it.
What makes a clinic good for fat dissolving injections?
The quality of the assessment, not the size of the advertising. Fat dissolving injections look simple β a lipolytic solution injected into a pocket of fat, which breaks down fat cells so the body clears them over the following weeks. The simplicity is exactly why the decisions around the injection matter so much: which zones, how much, how many points, how many sessions, and whether it should be done at all.
A clinic that gets those decisions right will give you a modest, natural refinement. A clinic that skips them can take your money for a treatment aimed at the wrong problem. So when I compare clinics, I look at five things:
- Does a doctor assess whether the fullness is fat, skin or muscle?
- Is the treatment designed zone by zone?
- Is the clinic honest about sessions and timing?
- Are the price and the product transparent?
- What happens after you fly home?
Does a doctor decide whether it is fat, skin or muscle?
This is the first test, and the most important one: a doctor should examine you and tell you what is actually causing the fullness. Fat dissolving only works on fat. A heavy lower face can be fat, but it can also be skin that has lost elasticity, or a masseter muscle that makes the jaw look square. The same is true of calves, where bulk is often muscle.
At HERA every plan begins with a consultation in which a doctor evaluates your fat distribution, skin elasticity and goals before choosing any zones. If the cause is muscle, I will talk to you about Botox for the jawline or calf Botox instead. If the cause is laxity, a lifting approach such as a thread lift fits better. A clinic that offers fat dissolving to everyone who asks for it is not assessing you; it is taking an order.
Is the treatment designed zone by zone?
It should be: dosing and injection points are mapped for each patient and each zone, then marked on the skin before any injection. A double chin, a flank and an upper arm are not the same tissue, and a single standard dose applied everywhere does not produce an even result.
At HERA the face and body are planned as two different treatments. Is the clinic honest about sessions and timing?
A good clinic tells you at the start that this is a course, and roughly how long the change will take to show. Fat dissolving is not an overnight change. The body clears the treated fat gradually, so slimming appears over about 2 to 4 weeks for the face and 3 to 6 weeks for the body. For the face, 2 to 3 sessions are often recommended; for the body, 2 to 4, depending on the area, spaced a few weeks apart.
Be wary of anyone who promises a finished result from one visit, or who shows you photos taken the next day β at that point you are mostly looking at swelling. Results vary from person to person, and an honest clinic will say so rather than sell you a certainty it cannot deliver. At HERA we review progress at each visit and do not commit you to more sessions than your result needs.
Are the price and the product transparent?
You should receive an itemised written estimate before anything begins, and you should know what is being injected. The price of fat dissolving depends on the area, the number of zones, the amount per zone and the number of sessions, so a clinic that quotes one figure over the phone is guessing. At HERA the estimate is written, lists each zone separately, and is agreed before treatment. International and local patients pay exactly the same; there is no separate price for visitors. On the product side, ask any clinic to name the solution it uses and to open it in front of you. That is a reasonable request, and a clinic that is comfortable with it is usually comfortable with the rest of your questions too.
Questions worth asking any clinic
- Who will examine me, and who will inject?
- Which zones is this estimate for, and for how many sessions?
- What solution is used, and can I see it opened?
- What if a zone needs one more session?
- How do I reach you after I go home?
How does the clinic look after you when you fly home?
A good clinic plans around your trip and stays reachable afterwards. Most patients return to daily life immediately; mild swelling, redness or small bruises at the injection sites are common and usually settle within a few days. Cold compresses, staying hydrated and avoiding intense heat or alcohol for a couple of days help.
Because the result develops over weeks, you will usually see most of the change at home, not in Seoul. The honest limits
Even the most careful clinic cannot make fat dissolving injections do what they are not designed to do. They refine small, localized pockets of fat; they do not reduce overall weight, tighten loose skin or replace liposuction for large volumes. Results are long-lasting when your weight stays stable, and complications such as bleeding, infection or inflammation, as well as satisfaction, vary between individuals. A good clinic is one that tells you all of this before you pay β and that is the standard I hold HERA to.
