Juvelook Side Effects in Korea: What Is Normal and What Is Not

I'm Dr. Jong Seon Kim, a plastic surgeon at Gangnam HERA in Seoul and a board member of the International Petit Medical Society, and most of my clinical day is spent on fillers and injectables. Patients who have read about Juvelook online often write to me with a mix of interest and worry, and the worry usually comes as one question: "What are the side effects of Juvelook, and is what I'm seeing normal?" The short answer: most reactions are mild, local and short β redness, swelling, small bumps or a bruise at the injection points that settle within a few days. Less often, nodules or signs of infection can occur, and those need a doctor. Below is how I explain the difference in consultation, and what we do to keep the risk low.
What are the common side effects of Juvelook?
Mild redness, swelling, small bumps and occasional bruising at the injection points, which usually settle within a few days. These are expected reactions to injections into the dermis, not signs that something has gone wrong. Most people return to their daily routine soon after treatment, and makeup or a scarf usually covers what little shows.
- Redness β a pink flush over the treated area, usually fading within a day or two
- Swelling β mild puffiness, more noticeable on thin skin such as the under-eye area
- Small bumps β raised points where the product was placed, which flatten as it spreads
- Bruising β occasional small bruises, depending on the area and your skin
Juvelook combines PDLLA β poly-D,L-lactic acid β with hyaluronic acid. The HA gives immediate hydration, and the PDLLA works slowly, breaking down over time and stimulating your own collagen. That slow action is why the early reactions are about the injection itself, while the result builds later.
Why do small bumps appear, and when are they a problem?
Early bumps are normal and flatten within days; a firm lump that stays or appears weeks later is a nodule and should be examined. Right after injection, each placement point can feel slightly raised. As the product settles and spreads through the dermis, those points soften. Your doctor may advise gentle massage of the area to help the product sit evenly β follow that instruction exactly, neither skipping it nor overdoing it.
Nodules are different. The precautions for Juvelook list nodules among the possible side effects, alongside bleeding, infection, inflammation, redness and swelling. A nodule is a firm, persistent lump rather than a soft bump that fades. If you notice one β especially after the first week β send a clear photograph and let a doctor examine it rather than trying to massage it away yourself.
Which side effects need a doctor quickly?
Worsening pain, heat, spreading redness, discharge or a fever after treatment need a doctor promptly, because they can be signs of infection or inflammation. These are uncommon. They are also the reason Juvelook is performed in a medical setting, by a physician, with aftercare instructions you can follow at home.
- Pain that gets worse after the first day rather than better
- Redness that spreads or feels hot
- Pus or discharge from an injection point
- Fever, or feeling unwell after treatment
- Skin that turns pale, dusky or mottled
If any of these appear, contact the clinic the same day. If you are already home abroad, see a local doctor and send us photographs so we can share what was done and when.
How does HERA reduce the risk of side effects?
By assessing suitability first, choosing the right formula, placing it at the right depth and giving clear aftercare. A consultation with a doctor is required before Juvelook, and it is not a formality.
- Suitability β a physician examines your skin and your history. We generally advise waiting if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if there is active infection or inflammation in the area.
- Formula β Juvelook for tone, fine lines and pores; Juvelook Volume, with more PDLLA and HA, for volume, lifting and deeper wrinkles. Using the stronger formula where it is not needed is not a shortcut.
- Depth and technique β the product is placed into the dermis with a needle or cannula, depending on the area.
- Even distribution β the area may be gently massaged after injection so the product sits evenly.
- Aftercare and follow-up β written instructions and a schedule for your next session.
Anaesthesia is topical or gas, for comfort. A session usually takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
What does a normal Juvelook recovery look like?
A few days of mild local reactions, then a quiet period, then gradual improvement from around three to four weeks. Results vary from person to person. A typical timeline looks like this:
- Day of treatment: redness, mild swelling and small raised points at the injection sites
- First few days: bumps flatten and any redness settles; a small bruise may take a little longer
- First week or two: the skin looks and feels normal; this is when to watch for any firm lump that stays
- From around three to four weeks: collagen-driven improvement begins to show, gradually

Is Juvelook riskier than hyaluronic-acid filler?
It is not riskier so much as different: Juvelook works gradually, and its PDLLA cannot simply be dissolved the way hyaluronic-acid filler can. With HA filler, an enzyme can reverse the result if needed. The PDLLA in Juvelook breaks down gradually on its own instead. That is one reason I am careful about formula, depth and amount from the first session, and why I prefer a planned course over trying to do everything at once.
The under-eye area deserves extra care with any injectable, because the skin there is the thinnest on the face. "Can I fly home after Juvelook?"
Most people can. The usual reactions settle within a few days, so I suggest having your session early in your stay, which also leaves time for a check if anything worries you.
"Will Juvelook help my acne scars without making things worse?"

Only as your doctor instructed. A soft early bump usually flattens by itself; a firm lump that stays should be examined, not rubbed.

Juvelook is not risk-free, and no doctor can promise that every patient will have no reaction. Side effects such as bleeding, infection, inflammation, redness, swelling or nodules can occur, and results and satisfaction vary between individuals. What I can offer is a proper suitability assessment, the right formula for your goal, careful placement and clear aftercare β and a straight answer if you send me a photograph and ask whether something is normal.
